Today ground breaking ceremony of NCTC in Kharian by COAS.
Islamabad: The Pakistan Army on Tuesday began work on the construction of a National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Pabbi near the Kharian cantonment in the central Punjab province.
The state-of-the-art facility will not only play an important role for the training of its own troops, it will also cater to the growing demand for training requests from other friendly armies, a military statement said.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif led the ground-breaking ceremony and said in a speech that the Pakistan Army “is fully prepared to deter and defeat any form of aggression across the entire spectrum of threat.”
He said the Pakistan Army is respected for its achievements and sacrifices the world over.
The NCTC will impart quality training to troops to combat terrorism over all kinds of terrain.
“Since we will have to fight this menace of terror together with other law-enforcing agencies across the country, the Army will do its part to train the paramilitary force, police, constabulary and levies also at this facility,” the army chief said.
General Sharif visited the troops undergoing counter-terrorism training exercises, and appreciated the standards achieved.
He paid glowing tribute to the troops participating in the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists in the North Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border.
