The russians fare the best in my opnion following by Poland, Germany, China and Turkey! (did not include Pakistan for a reason that its our own)

The U.S. anthem tune is not great, but the words rock... it's a war poem set to music. None of this "Let's hold hands and praise our nation" garbage!

The third stanza:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footstep's pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

My favorite anthems are listed as below...

1. Hymm of the (former) Soviet Union - Probably one of the greatest national anthems ever composed. The lyrics are very powerful as well. There are videos with translations on YouTube.

2. The Internationale (L'Internationale in the original French) is a famous anthem. It has different connotations for different groups-- socialists, communists, social-democrats and anarchists. The Internationale has been translated into many of the world's languages and is one of the most well known and recognized anthems in the world, though at present it belongs to no state. It has often been and still constitutes a song of resistance. The lyrics differ from language to language. From 1922 to 1944, The Internationale was the de facto national anthem of the Soviet Union.

3. "Risen from the Ruins" - Former East Germany/ DDR

4. National Anthem of Iran
- Not thought of as such by all but it is compelling still in spite of it's brief length.

5. "La Marseillaise" - France (... requires little introduction.)
