Narendra Modi debuts on Instagram,crosses 70,000 followers in less than a day!

November 12 saw the debut of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social networking service Instagram. While Modi’s debut on Instagram was a delight for his followers, the first picture would have disappoint his fans. Modi didn’t upload a ‘selfie’ as everybody would have expected, but a picture of the 25th ASEAN Summit. The photo caption read, “Hello World! Great being on Instagram. My first photo…this one from the ASEAN Summit.” Being a tech savvy person, Modi didn’t forget to tag the location, which was Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

Instagramers (unofficial term for Instagram users) followed Narendra Modi at a blistering pace and his following count crossed 50,000 in no time. Currently, over 70,000 people follow Modi on the photo and video sharing site. Modi is also active other social sites like Stumbleupon, Pinterest, Tumblr and LinkedIn. A statement from Prime Minister’s Office says that Modi has been sharing photos on Flickr too.

Even when Narendra Modi took over the official handle of Prime Minister Office (PMO) on Twitter, the Twitterati welcomed him as followers’ touched the million mark in no time. Modi has been quite vocal of the usage of technology, to stay in touch with the public. In the first cabinet meeting which was held after he assumed the office on May 26, a guideline was issued to all the cabinet ministries- to make their respective ministry available on social networking sites, be it Facebook or Twitter.

The tech-savvy prime minister has 7.79 million followers on his Twitter account @narendramodi, and 3.43 million so far on the Prime Minister’s Office account of @PMOIndia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is known for his robust style and luminous charisma. It is well known that Modi has more followers on Facebook than Barack Obama. Known for his ceremonious first time entries, Modi made a grand entry in Gujarat Assembly, when he entered the Gujarat Assembly as a Chief Minister. The entry in Parliament was a grand one too as the four time chief minister of Gujarat entered as the Prime Minister-elect of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
