I think it comes from ayurveda and yogaNot really. Hinduism at that time relied heavily on animal sacrifices & Buddha was himself a non-vegetarian (partial to pork) and there was no ban on eating meat. That thought came from the Jains
There are some beautiful and out of the world monasteries in Leh and Ladakh. Also if you go to Lahul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh. See them once and you can never forget. So fanatically peacefulYup! A thread that turned religious, but had zero trolling, and interesting discussions.... on pdf! Buddha truly is great!
Regarding Buddha being a Vishnu Avatar, there are many puranas that talk about a "buddha" perhaps there are many people called buddhas...it basically refers to enlightened/learned ones.

Awesome news . Can't wait to see the University in its full glory again
What's done is done. Can't help it.A proud moment for us ,Indians.
If that damned Bakhtiar Khiji dont destroyed this university. It might still remain as the advanced university in the world.
I thought it was implemented at the time of Chandragupta and chanakya and if Ashoka was buddhist why he didn't abolish the cast system??
What's done is done. Can't help it.
(This time) We can screw this up on our own. Let's hope we don't do that.

The place where I live has the famous (now ruins) Martand Sun Temple. It was also destroyed because it was a place of idol worship. We can't change the past - only learn from it. The present is what we can control. Let's do thatBro, just imagine about that Nalanda University (if that destruction not happened),in this 2014 .A university having more than 2500 years old with invaluable study materials in its library of 2500 years old.I would die try for entrance if that Saraswati temple still remain
This temple should be reconstructed as well. All these broken structures of the past are still part of our identity/history!!The place where I live has the famous (now ruins) Martand Sun Temple.
