Nalanda University reopens after hundreds of years!

wiki says Amit means boundless or timeless and abha means light or splendor
Firstly I did not refer wiki since usually its full of crap and mentioned whatever I read and hopefully rightly remembered from various sources. And secondly as @Indischer rightly pointed out,the Sun is also apparently conceived to be timeless, boundless etc. as u mentioned and hence the word could be used interchangeably for the sun as well.

Wrong on all counts . Invaders did not discriminate between Hindus/Buddhists or anybody for once . Secondly death of Buddhism in India has much more to do with Hindus than with Islamic invaders . Read about Collapse of Harsha Empire and how it spelled doom for Buddhist . And then comes effects of invasion .

According to tibetan and mynamar buddhists the death blow to buddhism was from islamic invaders who destroyed buddhism in Afghanistan,Pakistan,Central Asia . Yes,there was a lot of infighting b/w hindu and buddhist philosophies and it was bloody many times ,but the main factor was islamic invasion which destroyed buddhism in Afghanistan,Central asia ,Xinjiang,Pakistan etc. Was it not for the mongol empire which turned the tide ,Islam would have destroyed Buddhism totally.

Aparently, he got that power once his soul entered the body of his master. But even jimmy could not stop his master from initiating a foolish/idiotic troll attempt of throwing an unrelated stupid story about him, in the thread right when monkey gods were being discussed.

Pusyamitra Sunga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The earliest reference to persecution of Buddhists by Pushyamitra Sunga is from the Sarvastivadin text of 2nd Century CE, Divyavadana and its constituent part, theAshokavadana,[24] which describe an account where Pushyamitra asked his ministers how he could get everlasting fame. They told him as long as Buddhist Law remained, he would have to construct 84,000 stupas as King Ashoka had done.[24] But one priest told him he could have everlasting fame by doing the opposite - destroying Buddhist religion.[24]According to these ancient accounts, Pushyamitra Sunga then went to the Kukkutarama monastery, slaughtered monks and the organization's residence; after which he proceeded to Shakala (Sialkot) where he issued an edict awarding a gold piece for every head of a Buddhist monk brought to him.[24]These accounts state the destruction continued until he arrived at the Bodhi tree.[24] According to other accounts, Pushyamitra Sunga proceeded to Shakala and offered 100 Dinaras for the head of every Buddhist monk.[25]

A Sarvastivadin-Vaibhashika text of 2nd Century CE,Vibhasha, chronicles the legend of Pushyamitra Sunga destroying stupas, demolishing 500 monasteries at the Kashmir border and slaughtering monks; supported byKumbhandas, Yakshas and demons which enhanced his power making him invincible, until he approached the Bodhi tree.[24] According to these narratives, the guardian spirit of the Bodhi tree, Yaksha Damshtranivasin, took the form of a beautiful lady, approached the king, crushed his army and killed the king.[24] A Mahasamghika text, theShariputrapariprichha, translated into Chinese between 317 and 420 CE also mentions the story. TheAryamanjusrimulakalpa uses abusive terms for Pushyamitra Sunga, such as 'Gomimukhya' (cattle-faced) and 'Gomishanda', alluding to Vedic Sacrifices revived under the Brahmin Pushyamitra Sunga.[24]

According to the Tibetan Buddhist Historian, Taranatha, "the brahmana king, Pushyamitra, along with other tirthikasas, started war and thus burnt down numerous Buddhist monasteries from the madhyadesha to Jalandhara. They also killed a number of vastly learned monks. As a result, within five years, the doctrine was extinct in the north (Taranatha, 1970: 121).[24]

Archaeological evidence supporting persecution
According to John Marshall (1955, 1975) there is evidence of damage to Buddhist establishments at Takshashila around the time of Sunga. He proposes the Sanchi stupa was destroyed by Pushyamitra Sunga, but later restored by his successor Agnimitra.[24] According to N.N.Ghosh (1945) the Bharhut gateway was not constructed during the time of Pushyamitra Sunga, but was constructed by his successors who had a more tolerant attitude to Buddhism, compared to Pushyamitra Sunga, a 'leader of Brahmanic reaction'.[24] The destruction of Ghositarama monastery at Kaushambi, in 2nd century CE, is attributed to Pushyamitra Sunga.[24]

According to P.K.Misra,

"Although archaeological evidence is meager, it seems likely, that the Deorkothar stupa geographically located between Sanchi and Bharhut, was destroyed as a result of Pushyamitra Sunga's fanaticism. The exposed remains at Deorkothar bear evidence of deliberate destruction datable to his reign. The three-tiered railing is damaged; railing pillars lie broken to smithereens on stone-flooring. Twenty pieces of pillar have been recovered, each fragment itself fractured. The site offers no indication of natural destruction.(2001).[24]

Kashmiri muslims of Dar tribe are descendants of ancient feudal land holding chiefs of kashmiri villages which have been mentioned as Damara in ancient history of kashmir valley, Dar is simply corruption of Damara or Damar, they have nothing to do with any kind of brahmins, here is proof from google books

There are many other excerpts in the history books which talk about the position and significance of Damara in the rural part of ancient kashmir and how Brahmins hated the chiefs of the troublesome Damara cultivators/farmers.

Lavanyas are modern kashmiri tribe Lone who are also exclusively muslims, this shows that most of the Dars are derived from ancient Lone/Lavanyas and not any kind of brahmin shrahmin.

Here's something that will help u get rid of your delusion:
Sudhir-Dar.jpg

Sudhir Dar (Famous Cartoonist)Kashmiri Pandit and he spells it Dar and fortunately not Dhar.Similarly there are Kashmiris Pandits with the surname Butt or Bhatt as well the both are same with minor difference in pronunciation to make them look different from the Hindus or to be straight their Ancestors.
Hyderabad_CITY__Sa_1427515e.jpg

She spells it as Sandeepa Dhar (Actress from J&K).Similarly their are other Hindu surnames like Guru (As in Afzal Guru) and Rishi now pls dont tell me tat Guru and Rishis are Afghan or Arab tribes!!!

Describing the massacres of the latter and the destruction of their vihars, universities, places of worship, the author writes, "The Musalman invaders sacked the Buddhist Universities of Nalanda, Vikramshila, Jagaddala, Odantapuri to name only a few. They raised to the ground Buddhist monasteries with which the country was studded. The monks fled away in thousands to Nepal, Tibet and other places outside India. A very large number were killed outright by the Muslim commanders. How the Buddhist priesthood perished by the sword of the Muslim invaders has been recorded by the Muslim historians themselves. Summarizing the evidence relating to the slaughter of the Buddhist Monks perpetrated by the Musalman General in the course of his invasion of Bihar in 1197 AD, Mr. Vincent Smith says, "....Great quantities of plunder were obtained, and the slaughter of the 'shaven headed Brahmans', that is to say the Buddhist monks, was so thoroughly completed, that when the victor sought for someone capable of explaining the contents of the books in the libraries of the monasteries, not a living man could be found who was able to read them. 'It was discovered,' we are told, 'that the whole of that fortress and city was a college, and in the Hindi tongue they call a college Bihar.' "Such was the slaughter of the Buddhist priesthood perpetrated by the Islamic invaders. The axe was struck at the very root. For by killing the Buddhist priesthood, Islam killed Buddhism. This was the greatest disaster that befell the religion of the Buddha in India...."
