Instead of the usual surname Jain.

The great library of Nalanda was said to have burned for three whole months after the invaders set it on fire.

What a tremendous loss of knowledge.

That's why a lot of Nalanda's history comes from Chinese sources like Xuanzang and Yijing. Because the written sources in India were destroyed.

And the invaders probably did not even realize how much irreplaceable knowledge they tragically and wantonly destroyed, out of their ignorance and spite.

They fully realized it that it was irreplaceable knowledge that why they destroyed it. This is the pattern Islamic invaders followed through out the world.Wherever they went they destroyed the history because they were very keen to chronicle the triumphs of Islam. For them the history,knowledge,culture of the place didn't matter (China was lucky that you never had any "beneficent sultan" otherwise you can imagine what could have they done to your very very well documented history and beautiful culture). thats why the only historical records of India prior to 12th century are found in other countries from where travelers came in the pursuit of knowledge (Like the great Xuanzang and Faxian from your country or Greek explorer Megasthenes ),thats why we cant' claim any inventions from ancient times like the current number system without which the modern world was not possible but in the west and rest of the world it was known as "Arabic Number System" until when it was found in some ancient temples in India that survived Islamic barbarism.

I have no idea about muslim shah but jains in gujrat use various last names not just shah

In one word - yes. But that is not surprising. We also share same last names - Wanchoo, Dar, Bhatt are common among both Kashmiri Hindus and Muslims.

Hindu pandits are Dhars and Bhat while muslims are Dar and Bhatt. Isnt it??

Great thread. As a Hindu I always questioned the influence of Buddhism, Jainism and to a certain extent Sikhism in Hinduism. Undoubtedly, there are huge influences of these religions in Hinduism and vice versa.

Hinduism is a recent term....it was vedic brahmanism earlier which got influenced by Buddhism.
And the arabs came and called us Hindu.
