NA bill proposes 'eight national languages' for Pakistan

. .
Political gimmick or not, what's the logic against having more national languages? The so called nationalists have one less rallying point left. Urdu should remain the lingua franca, otherwise we'd have to be content community-soliloquizing.

The major issue I can see is the bundling of Balti and Shina. They probably had to pick at least one language from each province, and since G-B had rather equal spreads of these, they chose them both. Why not pick Burushiski as well, why leave out the third major language there?

Farsi isn't included either, which tells how little our legislators know or care about the continuity of our linguistic history.

whats the scene with Public Interest Litigation in pakistan???

If you guys feel many shall support your view in this matter, then you should file a PIL(if available) as the first thing in the morning.

Are we so weak tht by declaring some regional languages as national......we will be divided?

Nah...... anyways i dont see anything wrong with tht.

.
im not in favour of strike in which we stop poor people to go for work and stop shoppers for opening their small bussiness strikes should only be made by public not stoping other for what they are doing

Urdu is and will always be out identity. This gimmick should have been done 50 years ago maybe East Pakistan would have been saved.

Care to explain how that would have worked? For Bengladesh/East Pakistan? :undecided:

.
its a good bill that gives all the languages same preference. This way no other language will be left neglected.

If every language was made national and official including Bengali in the first few years of Pakistan instead in 1956 we could have avoided a lot of bloodshed and unrest in East Pakistan. The Bengali language movement was a starting point for Awami league to start their Bengali nationalism.

Thank you for the lesson in History. Damn, why didnt you say so before? :argh:

I take it floods/Mujibs/''friends across the border'' lacked spunk to convince the Bengalis over the rift?

Odd. :undecided:

politicians got crazy,
there is no need to start such a debate, there ARE many issues in pakistan, so why this.
This issue was over in 1960's so lets get over it.
We lost Bangladesh for it.
stupid bill whether urdu is our national language or all regional language.
does it really matters. we speak urdu and we will continuing to do so.
fullstopped.

.
Like I said, the bill fulfills a long-standing demand of some people, but these are petty issues when there's a war going on and the economy has tanked, and to says to me how misplaced are the govt.'s priorities.

I am Urdu speaker (AKA Muhajir). I dont see anything wrong with this bill. We should recognize our diversity and not run away from it. I support this bill.
