Majority of Indians are secular at heart and respect the right to religion. Otherwise Islam wouldn't be around in India just like what happened to the minorities in most (excluding C.Asian) muslim countries.
And talking about "minorities in muslim countries" and your topic of "equality", doesn't Islam officially consider non-islamics to be less than muslims; don't they put this exact tenet into practice legally in sharia-ruled countries.
