Muslim children barred from entering Mumbai's Oberoi mall

. .
In yet another case of discrimination against Muslims in Mumbai, Muslim children on Eid holidays were on Sunday denied entry and forcibly stopped from entering a mall located in the city's suburbs, a media report said.

Yusuf Parmar, Vice President of Gujarat Muslim Sapai Samaj, said he was passing through Goregaon's Oberoi Mall Sunday evening when he saw Muslim children being stopped from entering the mall, according to a report published by local daily Urdu Times.

"The G4S security guards posted on the entrance were forcibly stopping the Muslim children from entering the mall", he alleged.

He said he enquired with the security guards why he was doing so, but he could not give any satisfactory reply.

He said he lodged the complaint with the mall authorities. In his complaint he also said that if the malls did not want Muslims, they should close the malls during Eid.

Parmar has also sent a copy of the complaint to Additional Police Commissioner Sunil Pawaskar.

"If suitable action is not taken, we will take the matter to higher authorities. If needed, we will also go to the court against the move", he said.

Parmar's allegations came a day after a National English daily reported that a mall in Gujarat's Ahemdabad was charging entry fee from Muslims.

Cases of discrimination against Muslims are not new to Mumbai, a city considered as cosmopolitan. Earlier, quite a few cases were found when Muslims were not allowed to purchase homes in housing societies run by non-Muslims.

I have visited this mall several times with my muslim friends as well. i never found anything like this discrimination you have mentioned..:undecided:

Why bother explain? Anyways what is it with Pakistanis and Indian Muslims or for that matter any Muslim? Why dint you go and check your own house, look at the way Shia's and other Muslims are treated. Come back shouting foul once you learn to treat your own people well.

Were the authorities being too heavy handed in preventing these Muslim visitors from entering the mall? Possibly

Was there a religious bias by security personnel against Muslims? Possibly

Would I be hurt if I were a Muslim denied entrance to a mall on Eid? Definitely

Were the security people wrong in preventing so many Muslim men and women from entering the mall? Maybe not :undecided:

Let me explain why. Posh suburban malls, you see, work very similar to discos, pubs and classy restaurants. They are not a social institution like hospitals or schools, their only existence is to make money. Now what happens when thousands of people wearing certain clothing (Islamic skullcap, burq'as etc.) arrive one after another on a special occasion like Eid. And it's easy to assume most of them belong to a lower strata of society with not too much spending power.

So when these guys take over, it drives away Good customers, urbanites with Gucci bags and Carl Zeiss optics. It also affects cool image of the mall...once word spreads out that "these kind of people are roaming all around", it will affect business negatively. Most teenagers who are high value spenders in these malls will be simply scared away.

You see these hipster places thrive on attracting classy sophisticated people - that is their bread and butter.

And yes these malls are as likely to shut their doors on a thousand Hindu pilgrims wanting to celebrate Janmashtami in their traditional clothing, saffron dhotis and red tilaks. It's not about religion, it's about clothing, appearance.

It doesn't matter what religion you are, when you enter a classy mall, you gotta look your best and have a lovely arm candy girlfriend by your side.

indians consider Muslims to be lower than them. Same old caste system where brahmins want to rule.

Since we don't have noble souls like Timur, Babur, Aurangzeb, Shahab-u-din Ghauri, Nadir Shah Durani etc..who can teach these discriminating, pathetic brahmins a lesson...indian Muslims should demand a separate homeland for themselves in present india...

Absolutely pathetic! i feel sad for Muslims of india...

From your description, I can only say this : hindu-istan is such a sh!tty, mentally backward, and inferiority-complex stricken place...where people are always trying to look/sound glossy and dandy...but from inside, they are shallow as fcuk.

Now I understand why Shahid Afridi said "indians have small heart"....

Mr. AUZ

Before you accuse me of having a small heart (can't digest it, most humans have identical-sized heart shape), why don't you read my response in its entirety. This is not a Hindu-istan problem, it's an urban problem.

Don't tell me people don't get thrown out of 5 star hotels or classy restaurants in Karachi or Lahore because they are of a poorer appearance. It happens everywhere; the world is not fair to poor people, what are you gonna do about it, Mr. Einstein?

Talking about your Mr. Afridi, there was a time I swear he and his Pakistani team-mates ate in a classy restaurant on their cricketing tour to India - as a result, me and two of my friends were denied entrance to that restaurant. For what? Security reasons. Security reasons, my ***. At the most, we would have clicked photographs with Afridi. I wouldn't have done that either as I hardly follow cricket. I just wanted to eat my food in peace and there walks in Pakistani cricket team whose security takes precedence over my desire to have a nice get-together with friends.

:) it should be taken to task .

by the way its funny to force customers to buy

thats the problem....no1 really cares about it....else there would be no media in India except Doordarshan (State-run)

yea even i found it funny but their logic to keep useless crowd away by charging worked well
