Muslim and Hindu leaders who were loyalists of British Empire

To think that British did not exploit India's "faultlines" is over the top naive.

There were elements on both sides Hindu and Muslims who were canon fodder for British's divide and rule policy.

When i think of one such political organization the Muslim League comes to my mind

This is what you were taught the whole life via Indian text books. That Muslim league was stooge of British and Gandhi was god.

Same $hit in Pakistani schools where they say Congress was stooge and Jinnah was god.

So if you want to live with 5th grade school history book then I or @scorpian Ji cannot convince you.

Thank you

British were no saints.

But to accuse them for exploiting "fault lines" is really over the top negative.

Lala lajpat Rai was no stooge of British, then why he is the one exploiting fault lines as documented in his letters to CR Das.

Sadly the same Lala spent 4-5 years in USA (came for shorter visit but got stuck due to WW-1)

and still failed to understand USA's 1776 "Declaration of Independence"

So please quit quoting 5th grade Sarkari school history books.

It is lot more complicated than simple childish philosophy "Gandhi Good, british Bad, Jinnah worst".

Hope you understand.

A big LOLwa on your comment. Only country that could successfully resist against British were the Irish to get their Free Irish state after a violent insurgency against the British rule still it wasn't until 1949 that could fully segregate from the British Empire. India was nowhere near to all this and it wasn't until world war 2. You seems to be imagining instead of the real events. ;)

Not a stooge but loyalist, its political activities were not directed against the Britsh rather against the Congress.

Thanks for a detalied explanation of events that unfolded at that point of time, my knowledge in history is clearly secondary to yours.

But can the Irish and Indian situation at that point of time be comparable? Indian society was much fragemented with several sections whose interests lay with the continuation of British rule and others like Muslim league who were pro-British most of the times and were rather at loggerheads with the Congress . There were many faultlines in India's case which British could use to scuttle any concerted efforts by the Nationalists to hard bargain anything substantial from the British.

Dear Lurker, Irish and Indian situation had some peculiar similarities. But at this moment,we do not need to go into much detailed into that. As you said, "Muslim league were pro British most of the time and were at loggerheads with Congress", this is a little over simplified explanation of our freedom movement. I suggest you to divide the years of freedom struggle in to three parts, from 1885 to 1906, 1916-1937 and 1937-1946. In these three segments, if you analyze different events part by part in details, read about the actions of Gandhi,Nehru and Jinnah you will get a clear and vivid picture of our freedom history. Thank you and best regards.

Read the OP bro.

Gandhi was part of the British army both inS African boer wars and in India during WW-1

As a result of his "services" to the crown, he got a medal as well.

No one could be more loyal to Brits if you look at credentials of all big name politicians of that era.
