Apart from his book Musharraf has forwarded the proposal some times back.

which India had rejected altough it would benefit India more than us.

While i always think that an independant Kashmir comprised both the sides will only serve US intrests and that is the soul reason US never support any side.
She will try to influence Kashmiri leadership for independant Kashmir without India and Pakistan to get access to CARs and contain China and Russia ecnomically.
in that case an indepenant Kashmir will only a loss to India and Pakistan.

Nehru is on record to have said.......

i would prefer to personally hand kashmir on a platter to Pakistan than allow it to become independent.

I doubt they want to even. And how will have independent Kashmir be a counter to China. That is just stupid!

You misread and misunderstood Jana post and also misunderstood Nehru.

What jana said was to contain china....not counter.......this would be done by making independent kashmir as vassal state for the americans....with bases etc there to keep an eye on CAR, China and India ( when Nehru was in office ).

Cold war rhettoric. USA already has Pakistan; Estidos Unidos has bases sprinkled all across the Central Asian States.

China has been the fool for 3 decades trying to contain India; India will most likely readily join hands with the United States to return the favour.

Furthermore USA has Phillipines, Taiwan and who can forget Japan. Did you know USA recently conducted militarty exercises with Mongolia? And that India & Mongolia signed a defence co-operation treaty a few months back?

The Pro China king is put of power in Nepal. Vietnamese-Chinese relations are as bad as ever.

It's a buffet. Kashmir doesn't even figure on the menu as an apetizer.

Yeh and u think US will tolerate India as economic power threathing her position?

If US can do anything to down China economically after being sacred of her rising economic power she can do the same to India.
In that case it will only be using India but will never allow her to become an economical threat to US economy.

Actually, China is a direct and indirect threat to American interests. If you deny this, then there isn't much that you're following in geo politics.

you are giving US options in Asia based on realities of 2006...rather than 1980s and before. For start USA had to remove all its troops from philipines due to local population hostilities in the 1980s.

In the 1970s and 1980s it was apetising for the usa to have troops right on the border of China...furthermore a part of kashmir was ceded to china by pakistan to give it land access to tibet......having US troops in kashmir could be used to destablise China's grip of Tibet....if not china itself with low level insurgency.

As far USA having Pakistan....even at the height of cold war in the 1960s pakistani never openly gave usa a base.......it was discovered when USSR shot down U2 spy plane and gave dire warnings to pakistan. Pakistan would never permit usa to use its soil for subversion of china....hence the need for an alternative vassal state.

But all this is old talk now....and so is talk of independent kashmir....since usa is no longer harping on it with support or funds....least india get offended.
