After the detection of coronavirus cases for the first time in Bangladesh, the year-long programmes taken to celebrate the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the ‘Mujib Borsho’ have been rearranged considering public health.

The grand inaugural ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations scheduled for March 17 next at the National Parade Ground will be held later due to the prevailing situation across the world caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Other celebration programmes will also be observed avoiding massive public gatherings.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee at Ganobhaban in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.

Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, chief coordinator of the committee, made the announcement at a press briefing at the International Mother Language Institute on Sunday night.

Kamal Abdul Naser said foreign guests are not coming for now. He, however, said other programmes will continue throughout the year.

The government declared the period from March 17, 2020 to March 26, 2021 as the ‘Mujib Borsho’ marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.

Year-long massive programmes have been chalked on the occasion.

Heads of government of different countries, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were invited to join the celebrations.

Meanwhile, three coronavirus-infected patients have been detected in Bangladesh.

Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), came up with the information at a press briefing at IEDCR on Sunday.

Coronavirus, which was first reported in China’s Wuhan, has infected more than 100,000 people and killed over 3,400 as of Sunday.

None of the foreign guests have cancelled their tour plan as yet

The global outbreak of coronavirus or COVID-19 may affect the presence of foreign guests at the Mujib Borsho (Mujib Year) celebration.

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen made the comment yesterday at Osmani International Airport after his arrival in Sylhet to attend several local programs.

“The coronavirus has created panic across the world. It will have an effect, but the government is maintaining caution,” Momen said responding to a question from journalists.

However, the minister said none of the foreign guests have cancelled their tour plan for Mujib Borsho celebration as yet.

The government earlier declared that Mujib Borsho will be observed from March 17, 2020, to March 26, 2021, to celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

World leaders and eminent personalities are scheduled to visit Bangladesh to attend various programs marking the Mujib Year.

2 Biman flights to Kuwait cancelled over coronavirus

Meanwhile, Kuwait yesterday suspended all flights to and from Bangladesh, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Philippines, India, and Sri-Lanka for a week starting on Saturday, Kuwait’s civil aviation directorate said in a tweet.

As a result, two Biman flights to Kuwait were cancelled following the ban, Civil Aviation Ministry said in a press release.

One of the flights was scheduled for departure on Saturday, the other being on Tuesday, March 10.

Kuwait also banned the entry of anyone who has been in the seven aforementioned countries in the last two weeks except for returning Kuwaitis, they will be allowed entry but will have to submit to quarantine procedures, the civil aviation directorate added, reports Reuters.

It is a good decision, best under the present circumstances and it is good for Modi. He will not be thrown shoes and rotten eggs in Dhaka. I was worried that the price of eggs will go up.

Long Live Hasina. Finally, she has taught Modi what BAL politics is. Indian posters, please come up with your frustration. We will enjoy it.

Should have invited Modi and then quarantine him.
but then you Pakistanis would call us asskissers...

on a serious note: coronavirus is just an excuse, the people of Bangladesh have become the opposition party and this is the effect. If that was not true, the plannings would have been cancelled earlier and the asskissing minister (Quader) wouldn't have had to make a fool of himself

P.S. Forgive for saying that some of your ministers are not very bright...same like Pak!!!
you can say that freely to your hearts content. one of them needs army beatings again to teach him a life lesson.
just don't make discriminatory/racist comments or take one persons opinion as opinion of the whole nation and i'm sure both pakistan and bangladesh can benefit from such understanding

I am concerned as corona virus can spread quickly in densely populated Bangladesh. Last time when dangu fever happened it affected a big group of people. Looking at what has happened in Iran and Italy hope similar thing doesn’t happen in Bangladesh.

I believe the knowledge was known internally. Kuwait Airways suspended flight to Bangladesh prior to the declaration is not a coincidence.

Ppl should get prepared. For Bangladesh it will be a disaster. It might spread like wild fire. If advanced economy like italy and south korea struggle so much for third world south asian countries it will be angel of death.

A brilliant stroke of politics from GoB...

First massive protests... to let FacistRegime know : hey... you are NOT going to push Muslims into BD.

Then timing... right after Modi confirms: ..bang, bang... Sorry, cann't do... health hazarde.

Fair is fiar...well, played BD!!!

P.S. Forgive for saying that some of your ministers are not very bright...same like Pak!!!
Sir,
Other world...
