Mughal influence in India and Indian history

That's what I said, Marathas used Hindu nationalism to unite in their fight against mughals. But the marathas also fought the rajputs and showed them no mercy.

Religion is used as a motivation but ultimately everything is politics.

Is that why in 1707, the Marathas walk up to Delhi unopposed ? :coffee:

.
That time for Marathas the Sikh empire was as foreign as France is for India and vice-versa. The Marathas and Sikhs did not look at each other like fellow Indians.

We've fought with them, and we've fought against them. But that was the larger story of India. Down history.

What were the Sikh if not Hindu?

.
Rajputs after the fall of Delhi in 12 century were constrained to deserts of Rajasthan, It was Marathas who had the ambition to united all India. They might have fought Rajputs with this motive.

Shivaji was from the Bhosle clan, who were Sisodia Rajput from Chitor.

So technically Shivaji and the maratha Empire were also Rajputs and Rajput empire.

Chatrapati Shivajis father was Sahaji, a mercenary Rajput nobleman and later worked for Adil Shah.

Is that why their gurus were named,

Guru Ram das = RAM
Guru Har Gobind = Hari Govind
Guru Har Rai = Hari Rai
Guru Har Krishan = Hari Krishna
Guru Gobind singh = Govind Singh

All names of Vishnu/Krishna :P ............... I guess Vishnu is not a Hindu god. They are all Vaishnava names.

The true Vaishnaav, the devotee of Vishnu, is the one with whom God is thoroughly pleased. - Guru Arjan Dev

everybody (Indians and Pakistanis)

please tone down your commentary while talking heritage, race and history

no insults to any race are acceptable. in the sub continent we have such a diverse and large number of races with their own claim to fame and pride which may or may not come in conflict with another race within the same region but be civil and respectful as we all are blood and bones of these same people.

ALL Mulims (within Indian sub-continent) are Hindu converts you fool  ......... All of them forcible conversions.
Not entirely true...for eg-Thangal Muslim sects from Kerala are of Yemeni ancestry,They came to Kerala around 17-18th century as traders and has got nothing to do with any Hindu..Even many prominent Mappila Muslim families from North Kerala have mixed Arabic-Indian ancestry and are not forced converts....just saying...

There are a few notable exceptions.

Mughals were strong till Akbar he ruined the Mughal Empire

Akbar was like Paul to Christianity. Babar although founded the empire but it was Akbar who created political and military alliances that made Mughal empire formidable force until Aurangzeb policies doomed it. Akbar and Aurangzeb both interfered in religious affairs as Akbar created his own religion while Aurangzeb tried to impose Islam on majority non-Muslim country. The other reasons were weak Mughal rulers, stagnant economy and decline of the Mughal armies.

.
I wont be that certain and generous with making a comment like this. it might be true for some or for argument sake many. but definitely not ALL were forced converts.

let me share something with you very controversial which might hurt some and please some
some preachers claim that their faith is the truth because rich dismiss them due to corruption and greed and threat to the status-quo and the poor/ needy flock up to them because they see the light

both Muslims and Christians claim that. and see in the sub-continent. people below poverty, deprived and helpless are either Muslims (in India) or Christians (India / Pakistan because they get free food and a towel to wipe their tears and some words of relief from the preachers.

this act of those destitute doesn't make the faith the Ultimate TRUTH, but it also doesn't mean that anyone is forced to convert either.

better part of Pakistan was ruled by the Sikh empire of Maharaja Ranjit Sigh and there are Sikh signs from Lahore to Landi Kotal and beyond. this is a eventual consequence for any place whenever it is ruled or conquered by the powerful.. what I mean here is that there is a chance that some Muslims might have found themselves having to convert to sikhism though coercion or due to economic reasons
