MQMs success in Punjab beyond expectation
* Khushbakht Shujjat says permission to hold rally at Minar-e-Pakistan denied
RAWALPINDI: In the beginning there were some apprehensions but the Muttahida Quami Movements (MQM) success in Punjab has exceeded all expectations, MQM MNA Khushbakht Shujjat said on Thursday.
She said MQM will hold rallies in three major cities of Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan on April 25, which party leader Altaf Hussain would address simultaneously.
Khushbakht was talking to reporters during the partys membership drive at the partys office on Thursday.
She said during the operation of 1992 the state-run media had portrayed MQM as a terrorist organisation. But now the media is free and the message of Altaf Hussain has reached the masses, she added.
Permission: MQM sought permission to hold a public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan, but we were not allowed. So the leadership of the party decided to split the rally to the three cities, Khushbakht said.
The administration of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan gave permission, but with great hesitation, she added.
She said that the people of the province recognised MQM for the services it rendered to the common man of Karachi. In Punjab, MQM is facing a bunch of troubles because powerful elements have been united against MQM.
We reached out to the remote villages of Punjab during our membership campaign, where three generations of feudal families have been elected since the last 60 years. People there are deprived of basic facilities like drinking water, education and healthcare, she said. Khushbakht said for the first time in the history of the country, MQM was given full authority at the local level at Karachi and it changed the face of the city by the virtue of development works .Now the people of Punjab are demanding a Nazim like Mustafa Kamal, she added. She said, People have tested both the big political parties and now they want change. The philosophy of MQM is to empower the common man, she added. staff report
