MQM announces protest march over Karachi violence

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced on Thursday that its members in Sindh Assembly will stage a protest march against recent violence in Karachi, from Karachi Press Club to Sindh Chief Minister’s House on Friday.

This was announced by member Rabita Committee, Raza Haroon in a press briefing to media at MQM’s headquarters 90 in Azizabad.

The announcement came after a joint meeting of MQM Rabita Committee held simultaneously in London and Karachi.

Raza Haroon said staging peaceful protest is our democratic right and we intend to pursue policy of peace.

He said we express sympathy and absolute solidarity with affectees of recent violent incidents that took place in Orangi town, Qasba Colony, Gulfamabad and other areas in the city.

Raza Haroon said if the situation remained unchanged, his party would be compelled to give a strike call.

He pointed out that the joint meeting of MQM Rabita Committee held to discuss situation in Karachi and decided to record protest in a peaceful manner.

Besides taking out peaceful protest march the Parliamentarians of MQM would also stage peaceful protest in the Parliament at Islamabad.

Protest would also be recorded in Sindh and National assemblies and the Senate, he added.

He rejected the impression pertaining to clash between two factions in Orangi town, Qasba Colony and adjoining areas.

He invited media to visit disturbed areas and witness situation.

Raza Haroon also requested human rights organisations to send their representatives to affected areas in the city to discover and collect facts.

Members Rabita Committee, Mrs Nasreen Jaleel, Syed Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, Waseem Aftab, Gulfaraz Khan Khatak and Yousuf Shawani were also present on the occasion.

Karachi was a federally administered area until 1971 when that drunk Yahya Khan came along and made Karachi a part of Sindh province. Bhutto opposed this. So don't blame Bhutto on this blame your own army general Yahya Khan. Only solution right now is to make Karachi its own province.

Ayub Khan still kept it as a federal area. Sindh province didn't even exist back then due to the one unit system. What does Karachi have in common with the rest of Sindh? Nothing. Karachi should be made its own province.

first of all MQM is not an adequate party to make in karachi, esp when altaf hussain is its leader, MQM has to drop its racism card to become a truely mutehda and not mahajir, MQ must not out fake votes to win seats in karachi and MQM has to persue policy of weapons free karachi

making karachi province with incite sindhi hatred and why not?? sindhis were generous enough to provide karachi for urdu speakers and now we want to snatch away karachi completely from sindh??

either MQM or whatever party, karachi must be made forbidden for all parties, only counsil or baldia system must be used

MQM and ANP must negotiate to implement the policy of weapon free karachi, without which i dont believe any bullshitt coming out of these parties, they just make themselves look good

Again go keep barking your anti MQM chants but you do realize MQM is the only party that brought development to Karachi and its a fact that majority of Karachiites love MQM. MQM has never shown its racism unlike ANP who's leader Shahi Syed said urdu speakers need to be kicked out from Karachi. MQM is the only party that brought out a Bill to deweaponize Karachi. MQM recently started a campaign to clean Karachi from these party flags and make a greener Karachi. Didn't see ANP or PPP members there.

Sindhis who are from Karachi will always remain Karachiites no one is asking to kick them out. Again think logically Sindhi jagirdaars have gotten Karachi nowhere. They are only stealing from Karachi and Karachi's citizens. In this last budget Karachi was allocated 2 billion rupees, which is the same amount allocated to little places like Nawabshah and Larkana. These jagirdaar rulers only want to see Karachi as another failed and poor city like Larkana. A Karachi Province will be for all Urdu Speakers, Pashtuns,Sindhis, Balochis etc.

Karachi being the capital of Sindh is like Lahore being the Capital of NWFP or Balochistan.
