Director Wajahat Rauf announces 'Karachi Se Lahore 3'

Wajahat Rauf, the director of the hit local film Karachi Se Lahore has announced its third installment in an Instagram post. “Showcase Films and IMGC team up once again after the success of their 2015 box office hit Karachi se Lahore,” he wrote.

“The road trip might have ended but the third installment of Wajahat Rauf’s franchise films penned by Yasir Hussain promises a full dose of non-stop entertainment. KSL3 is stirring up and is set to release on Eid Ul Fitr 2019!” the post read.

Upcoming Pakistani animated film 'The Donkey King' to hit theaters soon

With Pakistan’s film industry taking on a rapid pace at progress, the animated film industry is also not lagging behind.

Pakistan’s upcoming animated film titled ‘The Donkey King’ taking on a humorous approach appears to be hiding a deeper message at the core by zooming in on the life of a donkey named Mangu Mangu Jan Mangu who has his head stuck in the clouds with dreams of ruling all over but is brought back to the humdrum reality by his father, who is gratified at the low pedestal held by his kind.

The director of the film Aziz Jindani who is also the mastermind behind films like Commander Safeguard stated about his latest project: “he Donkey King is an attempt to redefine the animation film genre in Pakistan. It will transcend the category by appealing to children and the child within every adult. The strongest point of The Donkey King is its unique, locally relevant story line, tongue and cheek dialogues and characters that are built to last. The content speaks to the kids but consistently winks at the adult, which will make it a worthwhile watch for all age groups."

The film by Talisman Studios is all set for release on October 13th 2019.

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2: A sequel far better than the original

KARACHI: There’s nothing better than getting to watch a good film when its trailer suggested otherwise. When the trailer for Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 dropped, I thought it looked too confusing – as if the film-makers were trying to do too much. Even the jokes in the trailer were distasteful and unfunny.

So, it obviously came as a pleasant surprise when the actual film delivered on most fronts. Directed by Nadeem Baig, the nearly three-hour comedy takes place three years after the original Jawani ended. Upon his brother-in-law Rahat’s (Fahad Mustafa) insistence, Pervez (Ahmed Ali Butt) and Sheikh (Vasay Chaudhary) travel to Turkey with their wives Lubna (Uzma Khan) and Gul (Sarwat Gillani). There, the tragi-comical circumstances reunite them with their long-lost friend Sherry (Humayun Saeed) who is hell bent on suicide. The film takes us through their journey as conflicts involving money, love and Indo-Pak politics arise.

The greatest strength of JPNA 2 is its fast pace. It moves like a bullet train from point A to B, never letting the audience take a breather. A few scenes are unnecessary, even fewer drag beyond the limit.

Pakistani film-makers rely too much on cross-dressing, fat shaming and jokes about transgenders. This is a problem that needs to be addressed. JPNA 2 doesn’t break that norm. There is a fine line between being funny and crossing the line. And as hard it is to pinpoint the ‘line’, we have seen our film-makers tip over before in Mehrunnisa V Lub U and more recently, in Jackpot. Vasay does cross the line at times but quickly manages to pick himself up and continue.

The teaser for Jami's new production is out and it's beautiful

Titled Jugnu, the film has been directed by Ali Abbas Naqvi

Moor director Jami Mahmood has teased his next production with a beautiful 90-second first look at the film.

Based in Sindh, the upcoming film Jugnu is being touted as "a fascinating tale of love, loss and selflessness". The teaser follows a boy named Bhura and his pet goat. Watch it here:



With fresh faces, beautiful landscapes and a haunting soundtrack by The Sketches, Jugnu appears to be a gentle piece of storytelling.

The film's director Ali Abbas Naqvi has said that he looks forward to presenting "enlightened Sindhi cinema" for the first time.

Jugnu's release date has not yet been announced.
