Hulagu Khan

"When I lead my army against Baghdad in anger, whether you hide in heaven or in earth, I will bring you down from the spinning spheres; I will toss you in the air like a lion. I will leave no one alive in your realm; I will burn your city, your land, your self.

If you wish to spare yourself and your venerable family, give heed to my advice with the ear of intelligence. If you do not, you will see what God has willed.”

Hulagu Khan (letter to the last Caliph of Baghdad1258)

Hulagu, a fanatic and a Buddhist, one of the grandsons of Genghis Khan, was a man true to his words to the last Caliph of Baghdad, the Highest personality in the then Islam. The Caliph was rolled up in a carpet and trampled to death by Hulagu’s cavalry.

Hulagu’s army obliterated Baghdad, the capital city of the then Islamic Caliphate . The populace were raped and murdered. The Palaces were stripped bare and torched. The jewel in Baghdad’s crown, it’s Grand Library, had it’s millennia of knowledge thrown into the Tigris - so many books and parchment that theriver turned black. Baghdad was razed to the ground and 10 000 000 or 10 million people (in modern figures) were killed in the greatest massacre of Humanity in 1258.(Arabs’ estimate is 20 million).Estimates vary dramatically.

Mongol Empire

Many historical accounts detailed the cruelties of the Mongol conquerors.

i) The Mongols looted and then destroyed mosques, palaces, libraries, and hospitals. Grand buildings that had been the work of generations were burned to the ground. Not a single mosque was spared. He made Buddhism the State religion the places he conquered.

ii) The caliph was captured and forced to watch as his citizens were murdered and his treasury plundered. According to most accounts, the caliph was killed by trampling. The Mongols rolled the caliph up in a rug, and rode their horses over him, as they believed that the earth was offended if touched by royal blood. All but one of his sons were killed, and the sole surviving son was sent to Mongolia, probably as a slave.

iii) TheGrand Library of Baghdad, containing countless precious historical documents and books on subjects ranging from medicine to astronomy, was destroyed.

iv) Citizens attempted to flee, but were intercepted by Mongol soldiers who killed in abundance.

Who was Hulagu Khan and what was his aim?

Hulagu, son ofTolui and the Kerait princess Sorghaghtani Beki, a grandson of Genghis Khan, and the brother of Ariq Böke, Möngke KhanandKublai Khan.(Kublai Khan made Buddhism the state religion of China). Hulagu's brotherMöngkehad been installed as Great Khan in 1251.

In 1255, Möngke charged Hulagu with leading a massive Mongol army to conquer or destroy the remaining Muslim states in southwestern Asia. Hulagu's campaign sought the subjugation of the Lurs of southern Iran, the destruction of the Hashshashin sect, the submission or destruction of the Abbasid Caliphate in Baghdad, the submission or destruction of the Ayyubid states in Syria based in Damascus, and finally, the submission or destruction of the BahriMamlukSultanate of Egypt.

Möngke ordered Hulagu to treat kindly those who submitted, and utterly destroy those who did not. Hulagu vigorously carried out the latter part of these instructions.

Results:-

The siege is considered to mark the end of the Islamic Golden Age, during which the caliphates had extended their rule from the Iberian Peninsula to Sindh, and which was also marked by many cultural achievements. What had been the centre of earth for several centuries had been turned into a graveyard and it never stood up again.

Though ruthless, we should appreciate the Art of War of Hulagu Khan. His plannings, techniques and executions must be analyzed without any prejudice. Further civil discussions are welcome on these issues.

If killing is art of war, destroying literature is art of war then you must also appreciate Babur and Hitler too ;)

I hope this is a defense forum. And, the whole plan was executed and the new empire was created within a few months. This was a military marvel. Ask any General. Just focus on that aspect.

I appreciate Babur for making an impossible possible by defeating Ibrahim Lodi. But, not Hitler. He too was a great war general, but made many mistakes and failed to deliver victory.

Why are you giving this another twist. Anyway Indians don't honor such murderers and rapists by naming our kids like pakistanis do with babur and taimur etc etc. So why are you acting senselessly yet again?

.
China had to put up with these Mongol scum as neighbors. The Song dynasty was more interested with art and poetry and suffered immensely against the mongols.

btw, China held out against these barbarians the longest - as soon as the mongols moved west nothing could stop them. China needed a Han Wu DI to smash these mongol scum like the Xiong Nu menace before them.

.
The Shoah is a term invented in the 80's as the zionist satanists start their offensive to seize the world and make the NWO, like they tried to do it when they invented internationalist & totalitarian communism

We know you well. in another thread you mentioned Halagu khan and took shelter in him by appreciating him for killing Muslims.

anyway you call it art of war and I just mentioned if destruction is art of war then why don't you start from home ;) by appreciating babur, ghaznavi and all other invaders for the same art of war.

wasn't their art of war amazing as much as that of Halagu khan for you? or is it that you find some solace in him because the victims were not Hindus but Muslims.

Hitler is an arts enthusiast, he collected all the arts all over europe and kept them in bunkers, after the war allies returned them to the respective nations.
One good thing hitler did ..... :).

Sacking of Bagdad is a bloody part of history and nobody at that time can come in the way of these mongols.
Their war tactics are simply unbeatable.

They used to learn from the ememies about catapaults etc , which are used to win forts and citadels. For Bagdad these guys are seen as Barbarians and so they refused to go for negotiations and trade relations and the result is the sacking of Bagdad.

1)Either show me that or apologize for such shameless statement. You just can not think anything beyond religion. And, that is why Pakistan is in such a pathetic condition. Stop being the "thekedar" of Ummah.:disagree:

2)I neither mentioned Hulagu Khan before here nor supported killing of innocents anywhere.

Battle Tactics
Genghis Khan and his generals were brilliant tacticians. Their armies of skilled horsemen made quick, nimble maneuvers possible, and their traditional strategies included:

  • Spy networks that spent months before an attack scouting defenses, mapping roads and escape routes, noting supply sources, and gathering intelligence on local defense and infrastructure.
  • Coordinated attacks that included ambush, hit-and-run, and wave attacks. One of the most successful strategies was the feigned retreat, in which Genghis’s troops would fake defeat and run, only to turn on pursuing enemies.
  • Rapid communication that included using swift riders and a system of relay stations to pass messages to and from the battlefront.
But traditional Mongol weapons and tactics were no longer effective when attacking walled cities. So the Mongols adopted large siege weapons from the Chinese, Persians, and Arabs, and developed effective new strategies, including:

  • Catapulting large stones, diseased animals, and flaming naptha bombs over the walls.
  • Isolating the city and cutting off supplies to starve inhabitants.
  • Damming or rerouting a stream to flood the town.
  • Lighting extra campfires and placing straw solders on spare horses to make the Mongol army appear larger than it was.
The Mongols became as efficient—and frightening—at siege warfare as they were at cavalry attacks, leaving entire cities in ruins and complete populations homeless.
