The Mongol Destruction of Baghdad

your obsession with everything Turkish is getting a bit ridiculous

Learn about History

The Zengid Dynasty was a Muslim dynasty of Oghuz Turk origin, which ruled parts of the Levant and Upper Mesopotamia on behalf of the Great Seljuk Empire and eventually seized control of Egypt in 1169

Turks beat Crusaders and took County of Edessa from Crusaders
and In 1154, Nureddin ZENGI capped off these successes by his capture of Damascus from the Turkish Burid Dynasty that ruled it.

Nurredin's attention was mostly held by a competition with the King of Jerusalem, Amalric of Jerusalem, for control of the Fatimid Caliphate. From 1163 to 1169

Nureddin Zengi sent Turkish Army led by Shirkuh to Egypt
Shirkuh took part in a series of campaigns against Fatimid Egypt
SHIRKUH was Uncle of Saladin

Both Saladin and his uncle Shirkuh were soldiers in Turkish Army of Zengi Dynasty ( Great Seljuk Empire )

Shirkuh's nephew Saladin was appointed vizier by the Fatimid caliph al-Adid and Governor of Egypt, in 1169. Al-Adid died in 1171, and Saladin took advantage of this power vacuum

There is a book on the subject I read back in 2005. Very interesting battle and yes it has echoes of Russian failures even the disastrous campaign of the war of the roses.
The war of the roses why? 🤔

Ignore him,he says Turks existed 40,000 years ago before other humans,he says Turks lived in Anatolia 10,000 years ago,Rafale is "old",Spain is "nothing" compared to Turkey,Germans are nothing economically compared to Turkey,China makes bad drones compared to Turkey etc etc.

Just ignore him on this thread.

The war of the roses why? 🤔
No,I know the War of the Roses,I'm just confused as to the similarities with the Mongol invasions. I should check it out.

İraq,Syria,İran,Anatolia,Egypt,Jarusalem were ruled by the Turks
and Arabs were nothing after 1258

Ilkhanate was a khanate established from the southwestern sector of the Mongol Empire

Mongols HULAGU HAN took Azerbaijan and İran Tabriz , Syria , Iraq and destroyed Abbasid Caliphate

After the occupation of Syria and Palestine, Mongols began to advance towards Egypt. However, Turkic Mamluks led by Baibars Han defeated the Mongols in the Battle of Ayn-ı Câlut and drove them out of Palestine and Syria

Mongols did not lose a war, except for the defeats they were inflicted by the Turkic Mamluks

TURKS and MONGOLS are Cousins

Mongols even entered China ,Russia and Europe
Turk BAYBARS HAN beat Mongols in 1260

Saladin took on 6 Kings from Europe simultaneously and over 1 million came with Fredrick from Germany alone

less than 1/10 returned home and Jerusalem remained in Muslim hands for next 700 years until Arabs sold it out

Saladin was a true master tactician and Mongols would have stood ZERO chance against him

Under Frederik, up to 100.000 went from Germany (when all gathered) up the "holy land", more close to 50-75k, from these ca. 12.5-15k ARRIVED in the holy land.
Crusaders were mostly less in numbers.

CRUSADES

In 1095, Pope Urban II proclaimed the First Crusade at the Council of Clermont. He encouraged military support for Eastern Roman emperor Alexios I against the Seljuk Turks and called for an armed pilgrimage to Jerusalem

The Second Crusade

European kings, Louis VII of France and Conrad III of Germany

Nūr-ad-Din and the rise of Saladin

Nureddin ZENGI was Turkish Atabeg of the Great Seljuk Empire

Turkish Nūr-ad-Din's forces destroyed the Crusader Army at the Battle of Inab on 29 June 1149

Prince Raymond was killed and his head was presented to Nūr-ad-Din, who forwarded it to the caliph al-Muqtafi in Baghdad In 1150

Nūr-ad-Din defeated Joscelin II of Edessa for a final time, resulting in Joscelin being publicly blinded

Nūr-ad-Din's intervention in the first invasion allowed his general Shirkuh, accompanied by his nephew Saladin, to enter Egypt

Turkish Nureddin ZENGI sent Turkish Army led by his General Shirkuh accompanied by his nephew Saladin to Egypt

So all those battles where Mongols where defeated, which occurred on Arab lands inhabited by Arabs, had no Arab soldiers?

Most of the army of the Mamluks and Saladin were Arabs. Second largest group were Turks.

Mongols are nothing today. They were only relevant for 100 years. They left no legacy other than genocide and destruction. To the extent that Mongol is a swear word in most languages in the world.

There are more people in Baghdad today than there are Mongols today in all of the world.

Hassan-e-Sabah’s troops were in decline and vastly outnumbered by the time the Mongols waded into battle.

Interestingly enough, they were under siege for months and basically all escaped anyway by tricking the Mongols. Mongols had no idea how many there were in Alamut, and so when they surrendered they came up with the condition to let half of the occupants to escape. Mongols agreed and basically all of them escaped.

The Ming dynasty smashed the mongols so hard that today there is hardly any mongols left in mongolia. Most have been assimilated in China by now. No ancient nation has ever not lost a war due to many issues and China is no different. Learning from your mistakes and getting better thru adaptation is the only way.

@PakFactor There was a reason why Crusaders make strong forts along the way, when they were marching to Jerusalem, they have their eyes on the price but even they know without controlling the outskirts of the region its impossible to achieve the goal they are looking to achieve, Arabs are bedouins and they will keep raiding the pilgrims until a large army assemble and those raiders vanish in desert. I wouldn't call Saladin a Failure, his tactic in battle of Hattin was good, he exhausted the heavy Knights and burned trees in the direction of the Crusaders to further demoralize them.

Muslims from the very beginning never rely on numbers, Battle of Qadisiyya and Yarmook are example of that, going back Badr/Uhud/Khandaq, You have to out smart your enemies but have to keep in mind the possibility that enemy can outsmart you. If Muslims were united at the times of Mongols the results would be a lot different and Bhagdad would stand.

The Arab world is the home of the world's oldest cities and civilizations on the planet. The idea that all Arabs were Bedouin is simply the talk of ignorants. In Arabia alone there are 100's of towns and cities that are as old as the IVC (5000 + years). Makkah and Madinah alone are older than Rome.

In early Islamic history, Bedouins made a small percentage of the Muslim armies and hardly anyone of the historical Islamic figures were Bedouin.

Bedouins were and are a very small percentage of Arabs. Besides Bedouins were divided into 3 groups. Sedentary (meaning that they lived in towns and villages), semi-sedentary (meaning that they lived in towns for half of the year or parts of the year) and genuine nomadic Bedouins that moved from place to place based on the time of year and weather.

Anyway they are one of the oldest communities in the world.

Nahhhh .. Arabs were nothing .

in 1260 Mamluks were full of Turkish soldiers even they were become ruler of Egypt

Those were literally former Arab slaves. The Circasians and Mamluk Turks. Hence the name Mamluk. They were used as mercenaries by Arab rulers.

Turks and Circassians were a tiny percentage of the population/soldiers but they made a coup. They were completely Arabized too and were patrons of Arab culture.

Mamluk means "one who is owned".

You don't see people in Cairo speaking Circassian or Kipchak Turkic and claiming to be Kipchak Turks, do you?

And regular Arabs from Egypt, Hejaz, Syria, Palestine etc. formed the majority of not only the population (95% +) but also the military (common soldiers).

Also the Arab Abbasid Caliph was based in Cairo until 1517. He remained the religious head while the Sultans exercised military power.

Don't make desperately everything about Turk this and that. It is pathetic and screams of inferiority complexes.
