its so shocking and a dent on incredible india image

The Dawn report you included is indicative of the decline Pakistan is facing since this Corrupt PPP government has come to power.

Before their loot started, all the indicators for Pakistan were far better in the region. Now these thieves are ruining Pakistan.
Pakistan has never faced such conditions since its inception. Thats why I gave the example of Zardari. What Zardari is going to do after reading this report or discussions?

His aim is simple, steal as much as possible and increase his $billions. He and his cronies are the main reason, Pakistan is facing problems.
They have doubled Pakistan debts in 3 years they had been in charge.
Borrowed more money in 3 years than in last 60 years.

Their finance Minister is borrowed from previous government, not one single capable person to run Pakistan in PPP ranks. They are bunch of illiterate crooks, who are destroying Pakistan.

Indians shouldn't worry we know what our problems are we are vocal and biggest opponents of our Government who is deliberately adopted these policies because their prime purpose is to loot the country.

Hence my assertion, given an honest person is on the helm, Pakistan's problems could disappear in mere two to three years, guarantee.

Is it hard to understand for pakistanis that we have 1.2 billion population ...so 30% is a huge figure .....by your logic China is poorer than Afganistan because Afganistan has less no of poor people :woot:
also we have per capita GDP/income etc higher than urs so Shut up ....
@CD: No one ever claimed 'India is Richest Blah Blah'
We do have growth rate near to 9
We 4th in most billionaires list
11th in Millionaries list
we have doubled our nominal GDP in span of 6-7 years
And if u think this is trollong then no one can help u

OH G, some people have difficulty understanding, read the figures, 77% or close to 900 million live on less then Rs20 per day. UN figure for below poverty line is $2 per day. over 90% of Indians would be under the poverty line of UN, get a reality check.

So when there is a post about how rich India is They show there ego, but when there is a thread about how Poor they are, they abuse the thread starter, Indian strategy :lol:

WoW... Are u from Europe? talking poverty :lol:

Get a reality check, the poverty level is there in Pakistan, but nothing compare to India, it is in line of $2 day poverty line, not Rs20 Indian poverty which renders 77% of them on Indian defined poverty line, while UN poverty line $2 per day would cover over 90% Indian population.

No you need a reality check here

Your economy has been growing at average of 2.5% for last three yrs.
Your population has been increasing at an average of 2% for last three yrs

Hence your per capita growth is tending to zero.

On the top of it Your inflation has averaged at 15% in last few yrs.

This the reason your poverty level have reached 40% of your population and have long crossed Indian poverty level of 24%.

Again playing video game? A game where 90% Indians are earning below $2? Please provide link of your claim that 90% Indians are earning below $2 or keep your mouth shut.

Poverty in India
Poverty in India: Current Situation
Poverty is one of the main issues, attracting the attention of sociologists and economists. It indicates a condition in which a person fails to maintain a living standard adequate for a comfortable lifestyle.

Though India boasts of a high economic growth, it is shameful that there is still large scale poverty in India. Poverty in India can be defined as a situation when a certain section of people are unable to fulfill their basic needs. India has the world's largest number of poor people living in a single country. Out of its total population of more than 1 billion, 350 to 400 million people are living below the poverty line. Nearly 75% of the poor people are in rural areas, most of them are daily wagers, landless laborers and self employed house holders. There are a number of reasons for poverty in India. Poverty in India can be classified into two categories namely rural poverty and urban poverty.

Reasons for Rural Poverty

Some of the basic reasons of rural poverty in India are:

* Unequal distribution of income.
* High population growth.
* Illiteracy.
* Large families.
* Caste system.

Problems Of Rural Poverty

* Presence of malnutrition, illiteracy, diseases and long term health problems.
* Unhygienic living conditions, lack of proper housing, high infant mortality rate, injustice to women and social ill-treatment of certain sections of society.

Steps Taken by Government to Reduce Rural Poverty
The government of India has been trying its best to remove poverty. Some of the measures which the government has taken to remove rural poverty are:

* Small farmer’s development Programme.
* Drought area development Programme.
* Minimum needs Programme.
* National rural employment Programme.
* Assurance on employment.
* Causes for Urban Poverty.

Causes for Urban Poverty

The causes of urban poverty in India are:

* Improper training
* Slow job growth.
* Failure of PDS system

Problems Of Urban Poverty

* Restricted access to employment opportunities and income.
* Lack of proper housing facilities
* Unhygienic environments
* No social security schemes
* Lack of opportunity to quality health and educational services.

The steps taken by government to remove urban poverty are:

* Nehru Rozgar Yojna.
* Prime Minister Rozgar Yojna.
* Urban Basic services for the poor Programme.
* National social Assistance Programme.

But these processes can be helpful only if the policies go to those people for whom it is meant. The clash between the central government and the state government often results in the lack of implementation of these policies. So it is very important that the governments do not play power politics when it comes to a serious issue such as poverty.

Year All India % Rural % Urban%
1973 54.9 56.4 49.0
1978 51.3 53.1 45.2
1983 44.5 45.7 40.8
1988 38.9 39.1 38.2
1994 36.0 37.3 32.4
1999 26.1 27.1 23.6

Thanks. Though I am a lot more aggressive other times. :D

Its just that, when there is something bad, and everyone around the world points that out, you cant turn a blind eye to it. There has to be some truth in it. Its poverty for India, terrorism for Pakistan.

I will again differ with you here. Economic benefits ARE reaching to the lower strata. The rate of growth in prosperity in different strata is different. Things are changing at their own pace, slow, but still changing for good. And slow, but still a lot faster than most of the countries in the world.

Is that so easy to not look at the positive side of things?? :what:

Problems are everywhere....what matters is - which way the country is heading? deeper into trouble or slogging out hard to reach the shores.

If the ship is strong, it will keep you afloat, even if the captain is not willing to take it to the shore..

Agreed.. no questions asked :).. Good luck for your country..

Spending millions of pounds on development in Pakistan will do nothing to keep young men out of the clutches of the Taliban, according to an extensive survey of Pakistani attitudes towards extremism which will deepen the row over Britain's aid budget.
