ANDIJAN – Anatolia News Agency

A Turkish plane carrying humanitarian aid for Uzbek refugees who fled from ethnic clashes in Kyrgyzstan arrived Wednesday in the Uzbek province of Andijan.

The humanitarian aid, sent by the Turkish Red Crescent Society, is part of a second batch of relief supplies sent by Turkey for more than 75,000 Uzbek refugees who took shelter in Andijan after escaping from ethnic violence in the Kyrgyz cities of Jalalabad and Osh.

The aid includes food, blankets and kitchen appliances as well as baby food.

The Turkish Red Crescent Society sent 60 tons of humanitarian aid to Osh earlier this month.

At least 191 people were killed in five days of fighting that started two weeks ago, the Kyrgyz health ministry said in a new toll, although the last days have seen an uneasy calm in the affected area in the south of the country.

Neighboring Uzbekistan has said it received more than 75,000 refugees from the fighting between ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz while aid agencies have said another 200,000 have been displaced within Kyrgyzstan itself.
