What's new

More homeowners are turning to solar power

Would you stop with your perpetual typical childish smokescreen posts.

These solar panels in question being investigated for fires have NOTHING to do with these solar shingles that are in this thread. All you do is try and confuse people by intentionally obfuscating things.

Fire damage to a Tesla Trina solar panel on a roof.

The older style ugly solar panels which go over an existing roof have the fire issue...not the newer solar shingle type which are a roof/solar combo and the ones which are in this thread.

Solar Shingle roof.

Besides these panels catching fire are actually made in China. The Tesla solar Shingles which don't have a fire issue are made in the US.

"...The panels were made by a solar-panel manufacturer called Trina, whose handbook says its panels should be physically inspected twice a year (WTF!!). Tesla was not doing that, the home owner said."

Trina Solar Co., Ltd. (SSE: 688599, Chinese founded in 1997, manufactures, sells and does research and development on PV products, EPC and O&M.

solar panels catch on fire because of issues with installation. that is the issue of the integrator who are responsible for packaging and control electronics, not the wafer manufacturer. Trina is literally not the one on trial here. It's one of the biggest solar companies in the world, if Trina panels were the issue then they'd be the ones getting sued.

Tesla solar shingles cannot be used on flat roofs like those found in Amazon warehouses and Walmart stores, which is what the lawsuit is about. The minimum slope angle is 14 degrees. In addition, the entire premise of solar shingles is an aesthetic consideration, not a financial one, while Amazon and Walmart only care about the financials.

As for the financials? Tesla solar roofs are abysmal in efficiency at around 4.9% total. For organizations that only care about financials, like Amazon and Walmart, they're essentially stone age. Trina panels are rated at up to 20.9% efficient, 4x higher. Of course, for people that love flashiness, spending and going into debt without return on investment the "aesthetics" of a black roof (lmao) are worth the 1/4 efficiency and higher cost.

Note the burnt Chinese made Trina solar panels on this Walmart roof are not the Tesla solar shingles shown in every video in this thread. How come you can't figure this out?

These Walmart's are the Chinese Trina ones.

Nice so you admit these are not the solar shingles this thread is about.

still the responsibility of Tesla and reflects poorly on their brand.

still a liability that Tesla has, reducing the cost effectiveness of their solar shingles because the lawsuit costs will be paid for by the consumer one way or another.

Tesla solar shingles are still stone age in efficiency. I bet you literally could replace that shit with a black slab of rock and get more power from using it as a heat engine.

Again nobody is saying these shingles are the most efficient solar panels on the market. But at 71.67 watts per shingle (430mm x 1140mm) they will be covering a larger portion of your roof.

Right now many people are refusing to buy traditional solar panels because they are hideous looking on a nice home. The integrated solar into the shingles makes this a more aesthetically pleasing option.

California requiring solar panels on the roof of new homes

This may go national and then all new homes will likely eventually be using solar shingles as part of construction instead of the ugly solar panels. Look how long they have been around:

I don't know what aesthetics you like but the best aesthetics for me is economic efficiency.

Let's take California as you mentioned. Typical electric bills in California are $135 per month.

Even if a Tesla solar roof + storage paid 100% of the bills, it costs $55300 for the roof and $10500 for the PowerWall for $65800

Payback period: 487 months or 40 years, 15 years longer than the warranty.

Lol. It is indeed aesthetic - but only that. It'll never recoup your investment.
