Major Milestone Achieved at Mohmand Dam Project - 800MW
We are thrilled to announce that a significant milestone has been reached at the Mohmand Dam Hydropower Project!
The diversion of the Swat River has officially begun through one of the diversion tunnels, marking a critical step forward in the construction of dam weir.
WAPDA is constructing the Mohmand Dam Project across the River Swat in the Mohmand District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This remarkable project is not only the 5th highest concrete-face-rock-fill dam (CFRD) in the world but also the highest CFRD in Pakistan.
Scheduled for completion in 2026-27, the Mohmand Dam is a multipurpose marvel. It will:
Store 1.29 MAF of water to irrigate 18,237 acres of new land in Mohmand and Charsadda.
Supplement irrigation supplies to 160,000 acres of existing land.
Generate 800 MW of green, clean, and economically affordable hydel electricity, producing 2.86 billion units annually.
Supply 300 million gallons of water per day to Peshawar for urban use.
Control floods and ensure a sustainable water supply.
The estimated annual benefits of this project amount to an impressive Rs. 51.6 billion, making it a cornerstone of Pakistan's sustainable development future.
