Reason India's airforce one wasnt taken is because we got the 737 with counter measures, i am not sure if it can make a flight from germany to brazil without refuel

I was gonna say Modi was hurling potatoes from the window at MH17 while passing by. Modi was seen buying potatoes from duty free. My theory is obviously more plausible.

Incorrect- whilst the IAF BBJs (VIP version of 737) are used for Domestic/regional flights due to a lack of range Air India 747s are used for international flights. These 747s are specially configured for Head of state transport- bedrooms, conference room, sets taken out etc etc and are fitted out with ACM (chaff and flare), RWRs and MAWS, are handed over to and sanitised by the SPG one week before the PM is set to fly on them and are flown by IAF pilots and every flight is monitored by the IAF's Communication SQD's HQ in live time. They aren't just "normal" 747s by any stretch.

Off topic but there is definitely a need for the IAF to get complete ownership of the replacement to these Air India 747s that are used for Head of State transport, the current situation is penny wise but pound foolish not to mention inherently less safe than having these planes in IAF hands 100% of the time.

Well, Thank God nothing happened if it is true. It would have been a total chaos and tremendous loss for India. Not just because he is Modi. But he is the Mr Prime Minister. India is at a very critical time right now. We want Govt to succeed. If something untoward had happened of such, it would be a doom for economy, stock market, Nation. Will take years to recover.

BTW, What have India done if plane was shot down? India can not open war against Russia. Ukraine do not seem to be involved. Apparently rebels shot that. So whole nation would have wept without doing anything?
Should not there be armed escort or the countries should send their armed escort in their flying zone for head of states?

What would fighter jets be able to do in that situation? Air India One is equipped with RWR, MAWS and ACM so would see the threat and potentially be able to evade it, if there were fighters escorting the plane what could they possibly do? You don't expect them to physically put themselves in the path of the SAM do you?
