NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has picked former McKinsey India chief Adil Zainulbhai to head the Quality Council of India that promotes high standards in areas like education, healthcare, environment, infrastructure, governance and social sectors.
The appointment is in keeping with Modi's call to make "Made in India" a recognized and trusted brand globally, with products and services adhering to high standards of "zero defect with zero effect" and causing no damage to the environment, officials said.
"I am pleased to inform you that the Prime Minister has approved your appointment as chairman of the quality Council of India for a period of three years from the date of your assumption of charge," said a letter to Zainulbhai from the commerce ministry.
The council was was set up by the Government of India with representations from three premier industry bodies — the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry.
An autonomous council with 38 members, its mandate is to rank among the world's leading apex quality facilitation, accreditation and surveillance organizations to continuously improve the climate, systems, processes and skills for total quality.
The mission includes helping India achieve and sustain total quality and reliability, in all areas of life, work, environment, products and services across all levels — individual, organizational, community and societal.
"It is a privilege to give back via an institution with a strong focus on quality," Zainulbhai said. "I hope to bring in and promote a quality consciousness throughout the country. It's going to be an enriching and exciting journey."
Zainulbhai has helped catalyze Indian companies to become successful globally, helping public sector undertakings become more efficient and effective, and working with large multinationals to enter India and build profitable, innovative businesses.
He has co-editor of the book 'Re-imagining India' that has contributions from a host of executives, entrepreneurs, economists, foreign-policy experts, journalists, historians, and cultural luminaries from across the world on how India's potential can be unlocked.
Zainulbhai also serves on the boards of the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai, American India Foundation, Saifee Hospital, Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust, Reliance Industries and Network 18.

Exactly ,he's doing all this in a systamatic manner. This development has come after Road saftey and Transport bill 2014 in which there is a proposal of 5lac rupee fine per vehicle for faulty maufacturing designs. Good days ahead for sure :)

you got it wrong! :coffee:
Doval has been helping Modi or has been "advising" Modi.He doesnt have anything to do with quality counsel.
Adil Zainulbhai was a pretty sought after person in the corporate world, companies like Cipla, L&T and RIL had him as their independent director. There must be something about him that every big company in India wanted him on board.

Now if only he could rope in State governments on a consistent, coherent, and efficient clean up plan for all rivers, roadsides, etcetra, things would be good. Quality control shouldn't just extend to ensuring that everything is up to first world standards in our lives but ensuring that those who violate it (no matter if it is PM or 'aam-admi' or NRI's vising the country), are punished accordingly or given the chance to rectify their mistake immediately. For instance, if I happen to chew paan and spit on a bridge side, I think a cop fining me or giving me the opportunity to clean it up is a good lesson no? Similarly, if I toss in a plastic bottle into the river, I should by all means be fined heavily or be forced to jump in and retrieve it (the first option for me since I can't swim ). That is the only way to ensure what is cleaned up, remains clean, and this doesn't just apply to the environment, but in governance and healthcare as well.

Where did you see the emphasis on the person being a muslim? The emphasis is on his qualification and experience not religion.
