ISLAMABAD: Like never before, the Modi government has started a new scheme exclusively for Indian Army Battle Casualties and Weapon Purchase. The government has opened bank account where people can donate funds directly to Army Welfare Account which will be used for purchasing weapons for the Indian Army and providing facilities for war casualties, reported international media.

People had suggested government to open bank account to collect funds exclusively for battle casualties and purchasing weapons for army. The Modi government has accepted the suggestion and opened an account in Syndicate Bank, New Delhi for the same.

The most attractive feature of this scheme is people can donate the smallest amount of one Rupee.

good idea... though i think they should limit it to welfare of armed personnel and their family only(not weapon purchase).

It is not for weapons purchases.

Indian journalists aren't the brightest when it comes to classifying the well-defined roles of military welfare personnel associations.

Our defence budget is one of the top 10 on this planet and our economy is booming.

What makes anyone think that we need to donate to buy weapons is beyond my understanding.

This is indeed a great initiative as there are many young soldiers who get grievously injured during their missions and are rendered out of service. It is sad as these soldiers have been neglected and many of them end up struggling for survival despite giving such a noble sacrifice for the nation.

I really hope people donate with an open heart because this will go to a noble cause and help even many of our disabled soldiers start a new life through either a small enterprise of their own or something.

It would be great to see the link of the donation site as well here.

there is a difference when a country with 8 billion $ defence budget does it and when a country with 50 billion $ defence budget does it.

Good, but the government will have to make sure that the money thus collected in the name of welfare fund is distributed evenly irrespective of the ranks, Commissioned, NCO etc. should not be a criteria. Because in defense forces it is the officers with higher ranks are the one who enjoys the maximum benefits, whereas a normal regular soldier is the one who actually faces the first bullet in combat. :(
