Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on her ‘resounding victory’ in the 11th national parliamentary election.

Modi said he had spoken with Hasina and wished her well on her third consecutive term as prime minister.

The Indian prime minister called Hasina at 10:30 am on Monday morning.

Hasina's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the media:

"Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina on her and her party's resounding victory in the general election."

Modi also tweeted out his congratulations from his personal Twitter account.

The Indian prime minister said that he had repeated India’s commitment to supporting the development of Bangladesh.

He also expressed his hope that the two countries would strengthen their bilateral ties.

Reiterated India's continued commitment to work together for the development of Bangladesh and further strengthening of our bilateral relations.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement:

"We welcome the successful completion of the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. India warmly congratulates the people of Bangladesh for reaffirming their faith in democracy, development and the vision of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."

The Awami League-led Grand Alliance won by a massive landslide over its Jatiya Oikya Front opposition in Sunday's polls.

The ruling Awami League won 259 of the 299 seats in the election, while the Oikya Front, which competed under the BNP's paddy sheaf symbol, only won seven. The Jatiya Party, which had allied itself with the Awami League in the lead up to the polls, won 20 seats.

The Awami League will form a third consecutive government after its victory in the Dec 30 election. Sheikh Hasina will begin her fourth term as the prime minister.

Mujib held an election in 1973. Only 3 from the opposition won the seats....

In 1974, one million BD folks perished in a corruption made famine...

In 1975, he declared one party dictatorial rule after abolishing the democracy he pushed forward as the cause of the break-up of Pak...

Mujib's standing order was to catch his opponents and kill them without any trials whatsoever...

On August 15, 1975 he was to be declared the president of BD for life. But at that very dawn he was eliminated along with all his family present with him including babies in the wombs...

@Nilgiri: Any advice for you compatriots above? ^^^

This is getting really funny now. :cheesy:
It's like , the proverb , 'যার বিয়ে তার খোঁজ নাই , পাড়ার লোকের ঘুম নাই' . No Bangladeshis are very much interested , but our Indian fellows are over excited ! :-)

Nothing it's just sort of fun . The Bangla message is a proverb and the literal meaning is , "the bride and groom is not conscious about their marriage , but the neighbours beating the drum".
So you don't have to be concerned . Personally I am already in peace and extremely happy as usual :-). Politics never ever affects me , and will never affect me in future , unless I am directly offended by any political goon .

He is a wise Jedi master that taught me much in the art of trolling Bangladeshis when I was but knee high to a grasshopper kind of padawan here....some weapons of his I of course can never acquire (like his knowledge of Bengali....or his on the ground banter with Bangladeshi tourists visiting India that I will never ever forget haha).

Do not let his repeat-spam-sprach of same line fool you....a mighty warrior lies behind it (he just chooses to be hermit somewhat now). Just like behind his BD-mocking exterior and witty Indian mind....there lies a Bangal heart...one that beats very much like @Joe Shearer
