Modi announces $2-billion line of credit to Bangladesh

Rofl, so where you want connection? Moon?

Nothing wrong with borrowing from India to set up road and rail links that will both enhance trade and
also improve the transport system in BD.

China and other countries are not likely to be interested in giving out soft loans for projects that will
have little benefit for them. India will as then BD will invest and create jobs and wealth in their country
in return.

Just watched the joint press conference as it sounds like 2 bill +2 bill +800 mil line of credit so total of 4.8 billion line of credit to me.

Watch this and confirm ?

It's actually $2 billion + earlier $800 million = $2.8 billion line of credit + $200 million grant

I am not saying lets only focus on knowledge economy because manufacturing of goods is still a very important constituent of our overall economy and markets like India with 1.5bn is still important to us. However, to serve that market we must do so through air cargo. If you build road connections you could literally pave the way for dangerous incursions.

. . .
Never. You've seen what happens when countries opt into economic cooperation like this. Look at the UK with EU. Laws, regulations, the courts in the UK get overruled because they violate EU conventions. These kind of integrations will eventually lead to further integration and loss of national sovereignty.
Who told you creating something new is like a walk in the park ?

Have you worked out the details already ? If not then, let the better qualified and more experienced minds work it out. Changes are never easy, but go for it if they are for the sake of greater good.

Do you have any knowledge on economic front or you are just farting what ever coming in your head.:(
This is historic occasion and both the countries should maximize it by signing of FTA. Only teesta water is the problem which i am sure will be resolved in a year or 2, but just for bashing India for the sake of it is just nonsense. If BD does right thing in next 2 to 3 decade i have no doubt BD will be most economically strong country in all of all Muslim world and that including countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.

I don't think we can catch either Malaysia or Indonesia
but BD has chance to progress greatly in next 2-3 decades
on economic front.

These agreements are not that advantageous, contrary prior convictions, they actually end up not resulting in much , if any, net benefit. If anything, we can see the disaster the entity that is the EU has been. You only end up giving up sovereignty and end up being dominated by the more influential partners, for example, Germany has far too much influence in the EU and to a lesser extent, France. Smaller nations are completely trampled on. We are fine with the status quo.

As long as do not rely too much on India in terms of trade, then there is little harm.

Remember that BD's largest economic partners will still be US/EU/China etc.

Nope, after 1.5 decades actually BD surpassing Indonesia, thats I am damn sure about this.

@UKBengali I was going through some recent news and found out some Indian companies are investing heavily in Bangladesh, like Hero Motocorp, Tata Motors, Reliance power, Adani power, Airtel Bharati etc.

Most recent news :
Reliance Power, Adani Power to Build $4.5-Billion Bangladesh Plants

Hero MotoCorp forms joint venture in Bangladesh, to set up manufacturing plant

Do you know about the Bangladeshi companies that are going to/planning to invest in West Bengal/India ? I am drawing a blank there.

I don't think it's the perfect time to sign an FTA. However, I suggest both the countries should remove the non-tariff barriers which would significantly boost up the bilateral trade.

Indonesia is 3 times wealthier than BD per person now.

OK there is a possibility say in 3 decades but 15 years is too little time
as Indonesia is also growing quite quickly.
