Modi announces $2-billion line of credit to Bangladesh

That are some good points.

With a working trade agreement that covers BD and West Bengal, I think there would be
interest by BD companies to invest.

With good transport links like your proposal, goods can even be manufactured in West Bengal
and be sold in both West Bengal and BD with ease - a huge market of 250 million people that will
prove hard for BD companies to ignore.

If India and West Bengal can guarantee a certain level of business ease, you will see many
BD companies rushing to set up plants in West Bengal.
why only 250 million lol?

Go for whole east India as they have better road access through Bangladesh.Indian north east need better road access and you guys need market so win- win for all.

Actually, I want to see WB becoming a industrial state like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. But didi doing nothing on it.

Instead she still banging her head on Teesta, instead why not she asking an expressway between Chittagong and Kolkata, and FTA with BD ?

I am pissed off with her.

With increased trade, better transport and easier person-to-person contact between the people of West Bengal and Bangladesh, we can finally pave the foundation stone for a greater socio-economic cooperation like EU. It is one of the things in my wishlist.

BD will invest if there is a profit to be made and the cost of setting up infrastructure can be managed within
BD budget.

If India is able to provide loans at decent rates to assist with infrastructure on the BD side to facilitate trade,
and a working trade agreement is in place, then of course you will see BD companies investing heavily in India.

This would be a win-win for both India and BD.

Instead of this,

It would be much better a 6 lane expressway between Dhaka, Chittagong and Kolkata be decided, and an electrified railway track between Chittagong and Calcutta.

Further, FTA should be negotiated.
Bangladesh does not want a connection to Kolkata or any Indian city. Hasina's days are numbered. We will have a good trade and business relationship with Sri Lanka, okay one with Pakistan, a cautiously okay one with China, but nothing with India.

I have tons of friends in banks where you need investment :pop:

Why would you want Indian investment in Bangladesh? I'd rather we borrow from China but buil it on our own, unless we need expertise that we do not have, in which case we can hire the services of American, British or Japanese firms.

Never. You've seen what happens when countries opt into economic cooperation like this. Look at the UK with EU. Laws, regulations, the courts in the UK get overruled because they violate EU conventions. These kind of integrations will eventually lead to further integration and loss of national sovereignty.

Nothing wrong with borrowing from India to set up road and rail links that will both enhance trade and
also improve the transport system in BD.

China and other countries are not likely to be interested in giving out soft loans for projects that will
have little benefit for them. India will as then BD will invest and create jobs and wealth in their country
in return.

Only by mutual trade can South Asia progress.
Yes, trade can happen but it does not require entering into any political and economic agreements. It's a sure fire way of India trying to exert influence on Bangladesh. We are doing fine as it is. The U.S. And EU are our biggest markets. We will get better prices exporting to those areas than to the Indian market. If you build road and rail connections between countries it can lead to great danger in the future. Possibility of invasions, migrations, etc.

With FTA,,

it benefit much more BD, rather than India. And ultimately BD cant runaway from Indian economic clouts.
These days with plane and shipping cargo, it's not at all diffiuclt to export goods to far away markets such as the EU and the U.S. Why do we need India? Besides, we are increasingly becoming more service oriented which rarely requires the transportation of goods. We should build a knowledge economy rather than concentrate on low cost physical goods to serve the Indian market.
