There is a controversy going around Modi and his picture being altered but surprisingly, there is not talk going around on PM sitting with a serious hazard behind him.

Apparently, being Indian PM, Modi is the most protected and cared person in India and this is the level of care of the "most protected person". Shining India!

There are some who worry about deteriorating condition of Indian Airforce and poor performance of DRDO. This image gives you a picture of how India is being run and how much care, thought and procedures are followed.

I think that's a train and not an aeroplane. BTW why is there a chair near an "emergency door"! Him in that thing looks photoshopped.

health and safety in India? lolz, we do bare minimum. Indians are reactive than proactive, we need 1 accident to get it fixed.

Is this really a controversy? He is flying in a military helicopter, not a charter or VVIP version what do you expect? Have you seen the insides of most military standard aircraft? They are stripped down to their bare bones and have hazards aplenty.

That said, the PM of India shouldn't be being ferried around in frontline military equipment like this. There is a dedicated SQN (IAF's communication SQN) that is charged with this that flies highly modified aircraft for this purpose (BBJs, EMB-145s etc). However, the Communication SQN's fleet of modified(for VVIP use) Mi-8s are all but grounded these days due to their age (>30 years old and should have been out of service years ago) so Modi is having to be flown in frontline IAF Mi-17s which is clearly unacceptable.

One has to blame AK Antony for this situation, one of the most infuritating things is that the world's best VVIP helicopters were delivered to India and remain sat grounded in Delhi:

Hopefully this sort of "controversy" (if it really is one) can spur some action on that front. As of yet no resolution exsits, the decks are cleared for reinstating the orginal contract with Augusta Westland and putting this entire sordid affair in the past but the current situation (inaction) is clealry unsustainable.

To be honest, the controversay should have exsited prior to this when it became clear the AW-101s wouldn't be put into service (thanks to the reckless actions of AK Antony) but the fleet they were meant to replace (already aged Mi-8s) were coming to end of their service lives (most reached that point in 2014). No one seemed to be interested in what was to be done to address this matter but the Indian media are clueless. Modi has been flown around in frontline IAF helos for more than a year now and every time his life has been put at uneccersary risk.

The already most "at risk" PM in India's histroy is being put are more risk everyday but where is the outrage? Remember it was the Indian media's sensationlism and TRP-hunting that led to the current situation (AK Antony taking the unprecedented step of unilaterally terminating the AW-101 deal as deliveries were being made) but they have paid no attention to the aftermath.

What does a 'latch' next to PM Modi,in the cabin of Mi 17 have to with performance of IAF or DRDO ?
if there is a jerk during landing or takeoff or say turbulence during flight and some how Modi's head is thrown back you can imagine what kind of injury it might give to the back of Modi's head

I don't think they've seen helicopters before, so don't fault them. :enjoy:

Agreed but that is clearly not his seat this is just where he has come to look out of the window, for landing and takeoff he will have been in seating where there should not be such hazards.

That said, this is a frontline military aircraft so what can you expect? As I have pointed out- he shouldn't be setting foot on any such aircraft but this is the situation that exists. Just by being on this aircraft his life is in heigtened danger.

but it looks like he is sitting there meaning he is sitting in the seat alloted to him but even then its something very serous and should be dealt strongly even if such things are not checked for PM of 1.3 billion indians just imagine what kind of treatment a soldier gets this is serous security lapse and IAF has to answer here

The difference being that soldiers and aircrew wear helmets:

And anyway that's not his alloted seat mate that is by the door where he has moved to to look out of the window, for the rest of the flight and takeoff/landing he would have been in another seat. But this is a rather trivial detail and we are missing the wood for the trees- as everyone who gets "outraged" at this picture will be doing. The real story is what is he doing on a frontline Mi-17 in the first place? No matter where he sat on that helo he was at risk from the moment he made his way on board.

The fact of the matter is the vast majority of military aircraft are NOT certified to the same safety standards as civlian aircraft meaning they are inherently less safe- decades old Russian equipment even more so. This is were the real scandal lays- not the bloody latch that he may have been exposed to for a few moments whilst he overflew some specific areas. Just by being on such an aircraft the risk of a fatal crash was higher than it would have been on the AW-101s he should be being flown in.

welll, that helicopter isnt that good!!!!!\
compared to pakistan army

+ @Bharat_Bhakt it's not right to blame the IAF- they are making do with what they have. Are you really expecting them to say "No" to the PM if he requires a helicopter flight?

they could have insisted him to have a helmet i dont think Modi Ji would have said no to that but you are right thanks for explaining sir

Very true but I wouldn't be so sure they hadn't insisted on such. I can very much see the PM declining the offer/request, he likes to play fast and loose with his personal safety.
