MoD approves Indian Army's demand for 'mini air force'

pak army just needs a few more 12.7 and 23's to deal with them --- a battery of 4 of the latter for each battalion...

On a troll rampage are you my friend? Mutual respect marks out a good man, I guess you missed that memo!

what your army is capable to do is year long picnic on border while losing nearly 700+ men without even fighting.

which is the best CAS aircraft IA can lay its hands on.

Spoken like a true Pakistani...Now would you mind changing your flags..or are you ashamed of your country like other Pakistanis living abroad.

On topic

I feel there is no issue here really. And terms like air-mindedness is just crap.

AF can go for a Complete air dominance role while the Army should be allowed to do CAS ops to suit its requirements. It will only make it less complicated in the end plus it would be much easier for the troops to call for Air support in the end.

I feel..Army Pilots can under CAS roles much better than AF pilots coz of their experiences on ground.

plz stop doubting AJTR

Would be better if people stop dragging their ignorant, hate filled but in every India related thread.

HAHAHAHA......Why difference of opinion always constituted as "False flagger" by many Indians.???

fixed wing a/c are not good for IA. caz they need runway, much more maintenance time.

Helis are good option in IA. They will reduce response time of our army

Rudra and LCH of course! IA attack helicopters are mainly needed to support the ground forces, not to do individual attacks on enemy locations. That's where or indigenous versions offers more than enough fire power and capabilities (especially at higher battle grounds) and where we don't have to waste money on more expensive foreign alternatives.
For IAF on the other side, SEAD and pre-emptive strikes are important in early stages of a conflict, that's where the Apache Block 3 would offer good alternative tactics, to fighter attacks and would increase their capabilities.
I would rather go with the scheme that sathish has suggested in mind.
Heavy Attack Helos-Apache AH64/KA-52
Medium Attack Helos - Mi17 V5
Medium/Light Attack Helos - Eurocopter Fennec(doubling up for transport role).
Light Attack Helos - Rudra+LCH

Light Attack Helos - Rudra+LCH

There is nothing like a light and heavy combat helicopters except of Rudra and Ah-6 possibly, the latest Cobra can carry the same ammount of rockets and missiles like the Apache Block 3 and even LCH will have similar carrying capablity.
So Mi 35s now and Rudra/LCH in future would be more than enough for IAs requirements.

Rudra is just a modification of dhruv dont fall in attack heli categery.

I think IA doesnt place too much order of them.

Instead of them they want buy dhruv, mil 17 & LCH.

Those are more effective

That's not correct, especially because Rudra has a high ammount of commonality to LCH, the latter is just more specialised for the attack role. IA has ordered several Rudras, once because they will need the additional troop carrying capability, but also because LCH needs time till it will be available. In terms of firepower Rudra has only very limited differences to LCH.
