MMRCA, FAk-Fa and Delays in production might kill Tejas | idrw.org

It’s official now that, Countries light combat aircraft “Tejas” will yet again see further delays in achieving Final operational clearance (FOC). Tejas which achieved its ICO-1 (Initial operational clearance) in beginning of this year and was supposed to get its last and final IOC-2 by end of this year , now will only able to do that in mid of 2012 .

HAL has blamed “active monsoon “for the delays, but aviation experts are not convinced by HAL’s claim. Vinayak shetty (Admin of www.lca-tejas.org) said this year Bangalore has seen more than usual rainfall, but major testing to be done are weapons integration and weapons testing which are usually done on a test range and not over Bangalore.

But he slammed HAL for not able to deliver aircrafts in time, he added “In last 4 years HAL has failed to deliver 8 LSP aircrafts and till now has only delivered 5 LSP aircrafts, which on average means close to 8 months for development of single aircraft, even after this HAL has same pace of work for other remaining aircrafts,”.

LSP-7 soon to be tested as per source has been under construction for last 8 months (From Raw material to first flight) and even first orders for the 20 aircrafts placed 5 years ago will only take to sky in mid of 2012 (SP-1).

As per sources close to www.lca-tejas.org , there has been no urgency show in development of Tejas MK-2, which was supposed to have its first flight by end of 2014, and as per source will likely see delay by a year.

Which means? , that Tejas MK-2 will hit production only in 2017 period , which is crucial period for Indian air force , since winner of MMRCA aircrafts will see home grown production and also likely induction of first Squadron of Pak-fa in Indian air force .

So far Indian air force has committed for 7 Squadron (120 nos) of Tejas MK-2, but option of going for 63 more aircrafts in MMRCA contract will be more tempting for Indian air force . this period will also be crucial for Indian air force since Mig-21 will be phased out fully , which includes Bis variants along with half of the Mig-27 fleet .

Former HAL employee blamed Indian air force for token orders given and confusion that prevailed till 2006 if Tejas was able to meet ASR (Air staff requirements) of IAF, which lead to re-development of aircraft into Tejas MK-2. And he also said due to token orders from the customer, HAL was not able to recruit enough manpower or develop larger production area.

Another Defence expert, pointed out that in last 10 years, ADA and Hal were only able to deliver 11 aircrafts, which again even after a decade HAL was not able to shorten the time frame for the aircraft production, which averages 8 months period.

A Western aviation experts blamed , Developers careful approach towards Tejas Test phase for delays , he added “If you are confident with your product ,then test it to its limits ,but if you don’t want to risk a crash and have a stay safe approach then delays are common ”. But he also slammed HAL for slower production rate; he added “What if there is loss of one or two aircrafts in short period of time? With already limited aircrafts and with lost aircrafts, test phase will only see further delays”. He also pointed out that “Even with loss of one JF-17 aircraft recently FOC phase of the aircraft won’t have much effect on the project since Pakistan is already having close to 3 squadron of aircrafts at its disposal, comfort which IAF nor HAL enjoy at this stage”.

2012 will be a crucial phase for Tejas , not only it has to complete most of the weapons test phase but also has to hand over two aircrafts to Indian air force for testing purpose , if IAF is not happy with some aspects of the aircrafts , then again be a setback for the Tejas aircraft program .HAL has to chuck out more aircrafts and should shorten its Production period to a quarter from its current period . More aircrafts at its disposal will only speed up the test phase of the aircraft program and achieve its FOC in time.

delay of Tejas won 't effect Iaf......we r preety close to MMRCA..........

TEJAS CAN TAKE IT'S TIME......afterall lives of our PILOTS r precious than TEJAS.......

Does final weapon trial of Jf-17 takes place after its induction in PAF?????????

.
one more thing.......I Think Cancelation of Tejas project never gonna happen................

some Pdf members think that tejas gonna cancal soonnnnn......i only want to say that......EVEN IN THERE DREAMS, TEJAS NEVER GONNA CANCEL.....

Actually it will effect IAF, because MK1 was supposed to be inducted soon and without the experience of having it in operational service, they can't get further improvements into MK2. Moreover, around 200 x Mig 21 will be phased out now, while only MKIs made by HAL are coming in until 2014, which means IAF squad numbers are gettinge lower and lower. One reason I can't understand why we want to produce the additional 40 MKIs at HAL and don't buy them directly from Russia, to induct them earlier. Just like I hope we will order more than a single MMRCA squad from the winning country. It's a pity that they still face so many problems, but instead of concentrating on them, they divert resources to N-LCA, AMCA developments.

.
it might infact be blessing in disguise i.e if the iaf go for 63 more mmrca
anyway pak-fa and mmrca should provide enough experience to build amca

.
More Delay of Tejas Mk2 will lead to More Orders for MMRca and Sukhois

When the Aircraft Gets its final clearence , HAL Should Look to Join Hands with Private sector To Beef up Production , More Delay will Make Airforce Order Less of This and More Orders of Other Aircrafts we will be Inducting

Tejas Being Indigenious Could be used to Fill up Decreasing Sqdn Strength if it Catches the Time line and Production Speeds Up

IAF Will Order More 63 MMrca's anyway ! But Delay of Tejas will Lead to More Decrease In Sqdn Strength

IAF Is Looking to have a Sqdn strength of 45 by 2022

You need to be realistic man HAL is a company and it is business they have profitable projects coming like MRCA, upgrades of Mirage and SU-30MKI is already under process and so called mother of all deals FGFA why would they waste time on Tojes?

Just look at the production speed of HAL 1 aircraft LSP-7 took 8 months but still not ready for first flight :D
When they will be able to achieve FOC and when they will deliver first squadron. LCA-MK2 is already hit by 1 year delay.

Tojes purchase price is 30-40Million$ why not increase the number of MRCA aircrafts? The future is highly uncertain and for HAL the ideal time to announce its cancellation is 2012/13.

Thanks for Your Valuable Suggestion !! But that was Epic fail

Delays in Project Doesnt Mean it should be Cancelled ! Tejas has Successfully Passed all Its Critical Test and is a Standard Fighter
