Missing girl contacts mum on Facebook, says I married & pregnant
It was a moment of mixed emotions for a mother whose teenage daughter had been missing for nearly four months.
Alisa Wheeler, 15, finally contacted her family in the United States on Friday, using social networking site Facebook to announce she is living in Mexico, married and three months pregnant.
"She told me over and over again how sorry she is she let me down," Alisa's mum, Sheri Simonek, told KERO23 news channel in the US.
Ms Simonek said Alisa went to Mexico with her then-boyfriend after disappearing from the family home on June 21.
Investigators feared that the teenager would be sold into the Mexican sex trade.
"When she I guess got down there, he (the boyfriend) was married and she left," Ms Simonek said.
Alisa told her mother that her new husband, Chino, is 23 years old.
"She is 15 and she is legal in Mexico, and they assume that she went there willing and that's why they won't go down there and get her."
