The can hit Pakistan. The whole point of SLBM is that India can hit us from the vastness of the oceans.

This gives us the needed opening to increase the range of our own missile as well. Or, make it more lethal. A tit for tat response is expected by the world and gives us the opening to test technologies we have been holding back.
