Alice Foster of the express.co.uk, wrote a piece on this where she included an image which defined and differentiated different types of coverings used by muslim women and which parts of the world those coverings are banned. The burqa is defined as 'clothing that covers the entire body including the face'. Similarly, Natalie Keegan has a piece on it where she too differentiates different types of coverings muslim women use, and she too defines the burqa as 'Covering the full face and body, a burka is the form of Islamic dress that conceals the most.' So I'm not exactly sure about a single country which has bans over the face veil yet hasn't banned the burka, a type of covering muslim women use which ..... literally has an inbuilt face veil.
Here is a list of steps undertaken by the west, which banned/ are in process of banning modest coverings which don't even cover a woman's face.
- In 2003, German federal constitutional court ruled that an Afghan born teacher can wear her headscarf to school, but just added that the states can change their laws locally if they wanted to resulting in around of Half of Germany banning teachers from wearing headscarves.
- The 'Burkini ban' in France (which was later repealed) banned a swimsuit which covered your entire body. However, there was one thing the clothing never covered. i.e. the face.
- In fact do you know that the French burqa ban which is usually paraded as something that happened as a result of 'security issues' was originally started with a clampdown on students in state-run schools displaying such forms of "religious symbols" ..
- In 2017, Austria's ruling coalition while agreeing to prohibit niqab and burqa, also pledged to investigate banning headscarves for women employed in public services.
- In 2017 again, on the headscarf issue, the European court of justice ruled that employers can bar employees from wearing headscarves and other such 'religious symbols'.
The east never claims to be the standard bearer of empowered women. It's the west. The west claims that it's women are empowered and free. You yourself defined empowerment in terms of having a choice. So like I said, when you curb choices for women, under the guise of "security issues" your just making excuses to curb the empowerment that your claiming that you afford them. I'm not just criticizing the west here for the sake of criticism. I'm merely holding them to the same standard THEY ASCRIBED FOR THEMSELVES.
