Military helicopter crash in Mansehra kills at least nine

it wasnt? Then what is the media BS about?

The latest victims were part of an army medical team flying from Chaklala airport, Rawalpindi with medicines and other relief supplies for those affected by monsoon floods in Gilgit.

Five majors were among 12 people killed when an army helicopter crashed in bad weather while on a flood relief mission in Mansehra Thursday night. There were no survivors.

Not just inclement weather Sir, the terrain is very difficult and has lots of unpredictably turbulent air currents in the steep valleys and rock outcroppings even when the weather seems fine.
you might know the platform is acknowledged by the Americans as being reliable and we were funded through CSF to procure them from other countries. flying a helicopter itself in best of conditions is an occupational hazzard.

due to a big loss like this were an entire AMC unit is wiped out .. there will be a stringent inquiry to find out the cause, .. it just cant be brushed under the rug

maybe bad weather or failure of critical component otherwise it's a reliable helicopter.

Are these bought from Ukraine or Russia ?

we have many such crashes of MI-17 not the first one. and these had been bought from Russia

mother nature always wins when it lashes out at our feeble technology. Mi17 is a robust and established platform. people without knowledge of the helicopter and anally stringent procedures of maintaining military copters are making comments as if they know everything.

Well, sir the stats speak for themselves .This is the second crash this year .We have an Mi 17 crash almost every couple of years .I think out of the original 50 we lost about 9 to crashes that's almost 20% of the fleet in PA. Operating any aircraft with such a high attrition rate is unjustifiable.Compared to the Pumas which also operate in large numbers and in the same conditions ( mother nature) , the mi 17s are turning out to be Flying coffins.

these machines are being used over the clock in very challenging conditions. pumas are handful and are not used much and relegated .. if they are not flying they cant crash.

you are ignorant because you dont have a clue the number of sorties these helicopters do everyday that run in hundreds.. by your definition they would have all wiped off along with their occupants.

our personnel and the top brass wornt board them if they were that bad

Basic population proportion and statistics would prove you wrong my friend.

In complete layman terms, if you have 100 items of A, and 1000 of B, with A flying 10 hours per day while B flies 20 hours per day (this flying time is much higher than what is actually used in PAA sorties, but it is closer to the commercial aviation industry)...of course B will have a much higher accident rate as well as much closer maintenance periods...

Indeed, people forget that flying a helo is among the most difficult things to do for the human body, only a hand full of professions require, both hands, finger, both legs, both eyes, ears, the mouth and complete focus of the mind working in absolute sync in order to just fly safely let alone in inclement weather. RIP these souls who ventured out to save people affected from floods.

Initial reports suggest it was a CFIT due to poor visibility.

An unfortunate accident indeed, if that cause is confirmed. May the departed rest in peace.

It was a big loss indeed. Let us wait for the investigation to complete.

I fail to understand why 2 specialists and 1 double specialist were sent to do an evacuation of a single soilder when it could have been easily managed by a medic or a GDMO.Due to this thoughtless step army has lost its future head of pulmonology department and 2 other specialists.A sad day indeed.
