Any specific reason for Pakistan to undertake this audacious attack?

Been wondering that myself. Don't know whether it is the desperation in the Pakistani state apparatus to get some attention from the Modi government on engagement or whether it is the pressure on militant groups to launch more brazen & spectacular attacks to remain a drawing point for recruits, to preempt any loss to newer groups like IS (not yet a serious threat though).

Whatever the reason, the quality of the infiltrating groups seems quite a bit higher than normal. The recent clashes with the security forces seem to bear that out, there seems to be far more discipline in the way they are engaging. Or maybe they are just lucky. Too early to say that this is the norm unless we see a pattern over the next few months. Gurdaspur too was similar though there might now be a realisation in Pakistan that the risk there was very high because if the IED's on the railway tracks had gone off & there were major casualties, there would have been cross border retaliation coming their way. The focus seems to be more on the forces now, probably to keep the provocation to a more manageable level & also not risk international attention which, post Paris, won't be favourable at all to any civilian deaths. Must keep fingers crossed though while suggesting that since some of the loonies seem to operate on a different plane, who knows, they might just be waiting for an opportunity to do just that. That though, in all likelihood, will likely be a target outside Kashmir if they can manage it.

This was a very well planned military attack, Modi has to understand that their are severe consequences for brutally occupying a people who have nothing in common with his Gujrat who find the BSF as an alien force.Kudos to the kasmiri jawans.
