Su-35 and Su-30SM are also among the leading contenders.

The MiG-35 is the favourite to win the recently announced tender for 8 multi-role fighters for the Bangladesh Air Force, the official representative of the Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT) told RIA Novosti on Mar. 3.

Russia’s Su-35, MiG-35 and Su-30SM are the leading contenders in the tender, the CAWAT official said. The MiG-35 is the only Russian platform equipped with an active electronically-scanned array (AESA) radar, he added.

The Bangladeshi Air Force already has Russian MiG-29S fighters in operation.

Russia also hopes that an Indian tender for the purchase of Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) will be relaunched, and that India would consider buying the latest MiG-35 fighter jet.

The MiG-35, a 4++ generation multipurpose fighter, is an advanced version of the MiG-29K/KUB and MiG-29M/M2 combat aircraft. It is designed to destroy aircraft as well as moving and stationary ground and surface targets in any weather condition.

The MiG-35 was officially unveiled on Jan. 27 at the Lukhovitsy plant of RAC MiG, situated 140 km southeast of Moscow.

Should have got the clue when BD official was talking about having these.

In his statement for the event, President Vladimir Putin noted that officials from more than 30 countries were present at the MiG-35’s launch. Besides the leading candidates, such as India or the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) clients, officials from states with emergent forces, such as Bangladesh and Peru, were also present at the MiG-35 launch event. A Bangladeshi official told Russian media that the MiG-35 was among the platforms the Bangladesh Air Force would evaluate as part of its modernization plans.

The tender required that the aircraft must be in service with at least 3 air forces... MIG 35 does not comply with the requirements...

I guess this requirement is going to be relaxed...because, there is no other way in hell, the MiG-35 qualifies.

If our MiG-29 is MiG-29S version than how it is in poor condition as I have got impression from here? A lot of country including India is using this same version. Our MiG-29 was inducted in 2000-2001 period. Not that old. Then upgraded into MiG-29S version. If we farther upgrade it into MiG-29SMT version than there is no reason why we can't use these aircraft for another 15-20 years.Am I missing something?

Nope it does not. It became a legal document now.
This is a major clause and they will have to scrap the entire tender and issue a new one to do that.

Fair enough. Well in that case, we need to stop discussing the MiG-35 as an option.

Not only is it not in service, aside from the Russians, only the Egyptians have placed orders.

As we are already operating Mig-29 and have experience it's likely Mig-35 will win. I was dreaming something heavyweight like Su-35 for our air force. But might-35 isn't bad either.

somewhere on these forums a long time ago, I read that India offered BD the option to upgrade BD's MiGs to the latest standard (SMT). The MiG claims that the UPG of India is the most advanced of the MiGs (but those are carrier based MiGs).

"The second niche is the upgraded lightweight fighters which combine the classic MiG-29 version with new avionics," he says. One example of such activity is the MiG-29SMT modernisation package acquired by the Russian air force and other nations. "The most advanced is the MiG-29UPG, implemented in India in collaboration with local industry," he adds.

given the proximity of BD to China and Pak, I doubt if thats gong to happen though.

something more related to the topic - the MiG 35 has TVC which the MiG 29 does not offer even with the SMT upgrade - thats something BD might want to consider.

No I do not - care to point me to a link where I can read about it?

Never mind the above - Just googled it - its the MiG 29 with the Thrust Vectoring. Then I guess its not much of a quantum jump from a MiG 29 to a MiG 35 - is it?
