What's new

Microsoft’s default font is at the center of a government corruption case

The fact remains that the font in question pre-dates the document, and therefore it cannot be used to impugn its authenticity, by itself.

The JIT did the right thing, they sent the documents to London’s Radley Forensic Document Laboratory for examination. The 'expert opinion' of course is not legally binding but it sure does raise serious doubts .. When the authenticity of a document is already in question, and the font used has been commercially launched on a date later than the date of signing of the agreement (as mentioned on the document itself), then the document most likely is forged and until and unless proven otherwise, I don't think any court of law will accept those documents as 'authentic'

Ink dating can resolve this issue ..

But why did Maryam Nawaz provide photocopies to the JIT instead of original ??

She can still produce original documents and ask the SC to send them for forensic examination/ink dating ... That's her only chance now ... But I don't think aisa hoga

Incorrect Sir. The font was available as a TTF file before the document was written.

In the court of law, 'experts' opinion' definitely carries more weight than what you or I have to say

The timeline speaks for itself in establishing the fact as I have stated it. What the JIT or the SC to do is up to them.

PS: Please read the sentence attributed to the "expert" carefully. ;)

Hey it is Pakistan's internal issue so it is none of your business

Pakistan internal issue seeking UK forensic for authenticity of documentation including the font does suggest the case is open for anyone to debate. Besides, this is global news which encourages for debate. Don't see why you are against the debate for the sake of curiosity and knowledge.

I hope you understand that you are trying to defend forgery.

I work in IT and have a lot of dealing with law firms in UK. I have never seen a Law firm use fonts which are "standard".

Law firms do not easily accept changes as far as document management is concerned. I know from experience that most of the top 50 UK based multinational law firms are still using ffice2010 and most of them only updated from 2007&2003 quite recently, bear in mind that the "latest" version of office is 2013/2016/365. Lastly none of the firms that I have interaction with use Calibri font.

So even if the Calibri font was "available" in early 2000's no law firm would have adopted this font.

Please don’t justify such blatant forgery.

Well hiring the services of some forensic expert does not give his nation to interfere into Pakistan's internal affairs. He got paid and that's all.

Personal attack? Please do let me know which part of my comment qualifies for that.

Also I am stating facts and you are clearly trying to deflect when you don’t have anything constructive to say.

Tell you what if you can provide me a definitive proof that any multinational law firm, anywhere on the globe which was established in 1990's was using the font in even 2007/2008, I will buy whatever you are selling.

His Nation?
Do you have proof that he got paid?

You have to prove that he did not get paid.

Please read the "expert"'s statement above and tell me whether it can be correct as written?

Even MS Office 2007 Beta version was available in 2006 that included Calibri font, which by itself makes that statement a clear cut lie :)
