MI-35 MI-28NM short listed in Bangladesh army procurement list. attack helicopter

Well i agree with you on that point, but still majority of BA operational activities in bd centre around fighting separatist and extremists. Raids on militant dens in forested areas are a major part of army's operations. Plus, we shouldnt purchase weapons for status symbol, we should purchase them according to our operational needs as well as our doctrine.

IMO the mi 35 isnt a bad choice for BD army, it is a capable attack heli which has been tried and tested in various combat and operational situations by many strong/capable militaries. It has a decent anti-armour capability and had major improvements over the years. I have no beef with mi28 but it would be unwise to write it off, without giving it a chance.

firstly, if you bring up the term "status symbol", then you'll be playing into the trap of the foreign installments, who always want to prove that Bangladesh Army is just a "status symbol" who have nothing to do other than eat away resources.... I suggest you to not to go into that line....

secondly, military is a war machine.... so, by definition, it is not supposed to be used unless there's a war.... and a war machine has to be built up with a possible war in mind.... CHT issue is a small issue right now, and we actually don't have any other issue right now.... so, our military is not heavily engaged anywhere (other than UN mission), which is a very good thing.... its not the same thing for the Indian Military.... to be honest, we just don't want to see our valuable resources tied up in foreign-funded insurgencies, because thats what is the aim of the foreign enemies.... the more you invest behind such activities, the more you run into that trap and lose focus.... Mi-35 budget will eat into the Mi-28 budget.... and in the end, you'll get half of everything..... your purpose goes nowhere....

hope I made it clear....

Didnt you bring up the status symbol thing by mentioning "symbol of a strong state"?? I read your previous post as, buying mi28 is a "symbol of a strong state". And i dont agree with that statement.

CHT issue and the militant issue maybe getting smaller but it is still army's main priority, there is a reason why many of the army installations are situated in the hills. Furthermore, most of world's conflict nowadays are by non state actors(no/little armored units). Getting a mi35 seems logical to me as it can be used against both state and non-state actors. Also, it can be configured to perform anti-armor operation against armored units and transport missions in enemy territory. Furthermore, mi-35 acts as an assault helicopter, which will be useful for combined ground/aerial assault by the commandos/sf.

Lastly i do not see any problem with having a multirole helis especially if they are able to fulfill its primary duties and perform secondary duties. Plus, our pilots will be trained on different types of missions, instead of just sticking to one, which will make them more versatile.

Anyways bud, end of the day we will still receive attack helos, lets just wait and see what happens.

you have every right to disagree....
but remember, those who play with "symbol", don't talk about type of symbol, e.g. "strong"

CHT is the symbol of a weak state.... its more like "Bangladesh is poor; we, need Western aid to prosper"... this philosophy is getting dumped now.... no turning back to slavery....

dividing your resources so that none gets proper units.... not a good idea to get half/quarter of a squadron once again....

Anyways bud, end of the day we will still receive attack helos, lets just wait and see what happens.

agreed....

mi24 is really old mi34 is good the latest is mi34 m but there is more latest version of the mi34
what mi 34 can do the mi17 or mi171 sh can do
that is why i am against it

the mi28 NM is deadly and is the best choice 6 helo will do for now it will strike fear in the heart of the enemy :)

we might going to mi34 as it is much more cheaper then the mi28

Pressuring Bangladesh after buying Chinese subs is india's worst foreign policy towards us. Our politico-intellectual society is the baddest one among all. We must evaluate Chinese Z-10 or T-129 for various reasons. China & Turkey could give us some sort of soft loans which we need. Pressures from india should be handled by the sharp diplomacy. As sellers could pressurize india against delhi's pressures towards us.

Now come to the point. As BD Army got Mi-171SH which is combat-transport helo so we may no need to buy another same platform. Mi-35M must be omitted from the list. It's Mi-28NM we need to demolish any mechanized armored/infantry brigade eyeing our beloved homeland's border. For various factual reasons BA must go for it. First we lacks in such a platform which can carry fearsome anti-armor air-to-ground weaponry against any armored or semi-armored invasion. Secondly it has a good safety armor which increases its survivability against AAGs which would save pilots' lives and keep them alive. Thirdly Mi-28NM got air-to-air fire power too. Finally, it's a quality based platform which should bring return for prices paid from people's tax money.
