Well i agree with you on that point, but still majority of BA operational activities in bd centre around fighting separatist and extremists. Raids on militant dens in forested areas are a major part of army's operations. Plus, we shouldnt purchase weapons for status symbol, we should purchase them according to our operational needs as well as our doctrine.
IMO the mi 35 isnt a bad choice for BD army, it is a capable attack heli which has been tried and tested in various combat and operational situations by many strong/capable militaries. It has a decent anti-armour capability and had major improvements over the years. I have no beef with mi28 but it would be unwise to write it off, without giving it a chance.
firstly, if you bring up the term "status symbol", then you'll be playing into the trap of the foreign installments, who always want to prove that Bangladesh Army is just a "status symbol" who have nothing to do other than eat away resources.... I suggest you to not to go into that line....
secondly, military is a war machine.... so, by definition, it is not supposed to be used unless there's a war.... and a war machine has to be built up with a possible war in mind.... CHT issue is a small issue right now, and we actually don't have any other issue right now.... so, our military is not heavily engaged anywhere (other than UN mission), which is a very good thing.... its not the same thing for the Indian Military.... to be honest, we just don't want to see our valuable resources tied up in foreign-funded insurgencies, because thats what is the aim of the foreign enemies.... the more you invest behind such activities, the more you run into that trap and lose focus.... Mi-35 budget will eat into the Mi-28 budget.... and in the end, you'll get half of everything..... your purpose goes nowhere....
hope I made it clear....
