MFN status to India to turn Pakistan into consumer market

I think the Market is not fair right now

a) Local Markets lack energy , power and support

While companies in India do have power so that is an unfair advantage

While I feel that MFN status to india is good thing but it has to be done when local industry is provided 100% electricity and power so local industry has ample room to compete èqually with Indian industries

Otherwise we will turn into zombie state , that has no production we only get stuff and buy stuff with no creating power of our own

The issue of water and Kashmir are very important and should be discussed

MFN should be considered no doubt at some stage but only after Government of Pakistan gives Local companies Electricity for 2 years so they can be productive as in 60`s and 70`s

If you have no power then you still may have not doing good in manufacturing area , thus importing most of your commensurable items from other countries. your local industries may be still not finding it easy to compete with foreign industries. and you may have become a zombie state already as you feared . so that is not a logical thing to fear. instead of importing your goods from india can save you a big money that you can use in development or promoting your local industry. after all how can be it foolish to import a strip of indian medicine worth rs 10 directly from india rather than via third or fourth country for rs 100 ? you have to sell out your money anyway, but in the first case you are saving rs 90. so its your choice what you want to do. and as for as becoming a market argument, you will get a market of 1.25 billion people in exchange of 180 million people. so chances of benefiting you are greater than us. as for as bargaining the trade for water and k issue, dont even think of it. if you want to trade, it is Ok. if you not, we are happy any way.

Of course. Pakistan's domestic markets have long been carved up by mini-monopolies in collusion with those create government policies. The consumers lose out with poor quality goods and services at high prices, but it does give ensured profits to those in control. Why would these entrenched cartels not try to defend the status quo?

exactly! carefully opening up to regional trade and especially with an economy which is roughly similar in structure to ours will help break these collusion and provide a relatively competitive environment.

Yes, but will it be allowed to happen? Those who collude are strong enough to control too. What they need to realize is that growing the economy will also fill the government's coffers. Except that the goal is to fill private bank accounts and not the government's. Therein lies the problem.
