This is to all the Indians..tell the names of tribal gods or goddesses worshipped in your state...in my state telangana the famous tribal or village deities are pochamma yellamma, uppalamma, sammakka and saarakka.

All castes except brahmins and vaishyas worship and give animal sacrifices to them.Even when a new house is built or a new vehicle is bought we give sacrifices.

I request all the Indian posters to mention their local deities and the customs and rituals associated with them.

My god died when he got strafed by planes and he fell off the empire states building back in the 1930s.

I believe you have named one of your cities in his honour. :P ...... hong kong ?

What is this? Come and tell about your local deities..I think many Indians here are from upper castes who pray only brahmanical gods.even then if you have any idea about your local tribal gods please share info about them

Ok.Here is one. And don't be surprised, she is worshiped by both Hindus and a considerable part of Muslims in rural Bengal.
No man.she is not tribal God.wiki says she is mentioned in atharva Veda and a relative of Shiva.yeah she may be your local deity who is not much known in other parts of India like subramanya swami or murigan of Tamil nadu.

It is probably because two or more deities have been merged into one, which is typical of Hinduism. For example, Pashupati of Indus valley, Rudra of Vedas, Shiva of Puranic Hinduism, and several local deities have been amalgamated to become Shiva. Some people, still worship the original local deity in it's original form. There was one Ganapati from Vedas and another Ganesha from the Gupta era. But they are now a single deity (and one of my favorite ones too).

These all are ancient Rig Vedic figures

Goddess Uppalamma are the descendants of the Emperor Sagara of Suryavansha

Goddess Renuka aka Yellamma is the wife of saint Jamadhagni one among the saptharshis.

She is not a regular figure in conventional pool of deities. I am not sure how exactly local Bengalis borrowed a goddess from Atharva veda and started worshiping in a much localized way. She is found in one of the earliest Bengali literature.
