The reason is as we have discussed high and low with Gambit: "Real Time" problem in radar processing.

1 second delay time in tracking carrier ship with speed 50Km/hour means: 15 meter shift. 15 meter away shift of carrier is nothing, ASBM warhead still can hit it.

1 second delay in tracking 30 mach missile means: 1 km shift. 1 Km shift of missile means you are shooting empty space.

The American doctrine is all about superior airpower. This refuelling drone would extend the range of carrier based aircraft and they could strike the ASBM before they could ever be launched. In theory anyway.
