What's new

MBT 99A going to Pakistan for testing!

Type 99 makes more sense for a newer tank for PA. Al Khalid was just a version of type 96.

After Oplot M engine failure this was bound to happen @Icarus @balixd @kaonalpha @Sulman Badshah Guys try to get in confirmed please

I think it would be 99 A 2 which Pakistan would test

Why it was "bound to happen"?
We already have a similar engine in service and that seems to be just fine in every climate.

First we don't have 1500 HP engine the OPLOT M which we were testing had new Ukrainian 1500 HP engine. No initial Al Khalid was not which we use now what we use now has lot of parts from Europe and engine from Ukraine

What is the difference between 99A, A2 and G?
99 A2 is a heavy Tank with 1500 HP engine and other features but G is a light Tank made for higher areas basically for Chinese border with India

That 1500 HP engine is 6TD-3 basically the same engine as 6TD in T-80UD, and 6TD-2 in Al Khalid. They were smart enough to not reinvent the wheel, the older design was already efficient and reliable, thus the improvement in HP with newer construction techniques, smarter FCUs, etc.

And Al Khalid sure uses some western systems in its drive terrain and some other parts, but the main armament, armour and essentially every other system is based on the older tank.
There is a good reason why PA is looking for a new tank and is slowly improving Al-Khalid.

Al Khalid uses 1200 HP engine their is massive difference mate. Yes but lot of components are from Europe which pretty much makes it totally different Tank @DESERT FIGHTER can explain you better

I think we have had them for some time. Its competing against another Chinese tank the VT-4. All of it will boil down to its thermal management and desert performance.
Yes that is main test most fail during desert trials

Great News. Let us see what it can do in the Trials.....

China’s Type 99 main battle tank used by the People’s Liberation Army has been ranked as third among nine of the world’s most powerful tanks, according to Focus, a magazine based in Munich, Germany.

The magazine said in an article on April 30 that a modern tank must be capable of facing enemy attacks from different directions. Taking from the experience of battling insurgencies in Iran and Afghanistan, modern tanks must also be able to engage enemies in an urban setting, the article said.

According to the article, Germany's Leopard 2 topped the list as the best modern tank. The German tank is armed with 120-mm Rheinmetall L55 smoothbore gun and two 7.62-mm MG3A1 machine guns.

Next in the list as second rank in the world is the U.S. Army's M1A2 Abrams, a strong tank with depleted uranium mesh-reinforced composite armor which protects its crew from majority of munitions.

Further, the Abrams's turret can rotate 360 degrees in just nine seconds and its M1A2 can reload its 120-mm L/44 M256A1 smoothbore gun in only two seconds. The tank can also deflect and disorientate anti-tank missiles by releasing flares, smoke and chaff decoys.

Third in the list is China's Type 99, which was recognized as the world's third most powerful tank. The PLA tank is armed with a 125-mm smoothbore gun. It also has a liquid-cooled diesel engine with 1,500 horsepower.

Next in the list of the most powerful tanks in the world is Britain's Challenger II, followed by Israel's Merkava 4, Russia's T-90, France's AMX-13, then Japan's Type 90 and South Korea's K2.

The list was based on tank maneuver abilities, firepower and defense mechanism features.
