Mazagon Dock Ltd likely to get fresh orders after Scorpene

@INDIAISM

Sweden has less experience?

Well they are at par if not better than any onther western nation when it comes at making SSKs.
They have manufactured Gotland class and also supplied submarines to Singapore. The AIP system of Sweden is used by Japan and China too. If anything, they are experienced and very good at submarine building.
Last submarine that was manufactured in sweden was In 1995....Two Decade ago so you can understand what I meant with less expirience...

At this point is would probably be better to keep churning out Scorpenes at MDL (4-6 more) with additional capabilities (AIP for example) whilst looking to a brand new class of SSN/SSGN to be made in other yards in India (as has been proposed). The P-75(I) is looking next to dead (in my opinion) right now.

SMX :enjoy:

Though its not a true submarine, rather a destroyer that can go underwater. but this is bad, even a couple of these will give sleepiness nights to enemies.

Ocean class sub seems a better option, given its supposed commonality with Scorpene class subs. Also Barracuda tech included in this sub is guaranteed to give it a lethal edge over any other conventional sub.

SMX 25

smx-25-line1.gif

Length overall 109 m
Max. speed, semi-surfaced 38 knots
Displacement, surface 2,850 tonnes
Displacement, submerged 4,560 tonnes
Speed, submerged 10 knots
Endurance, patrol 30 days

For this concept ship project, DCNS focused on how to get what is essentially a conventional submarine to a theatre of operations as quickly as possible. Powered by three gas turbines driving three water jets, the SMX-25 submersible is designed to achieve a sustained surface speed of 38 knots. Despite the fact that the SMX-25 can deploy very quickly, it is essentially a conventional submarine. On reaching its designated patrol area, the SMX-25 will operate like other submarines using the same types of sensors and resources.

In the innovative semi-surfaced configuration, with only the upper portion of the sail above water, the boat will be able to use the same sorts of sensors (including an aircraft surveillance radar) and weapons as a conventional surface combatant (i.e. anti-ship, land-strike and anti-air missiles launched from vertical silos) while maintaining an extremely discrete radar signature. The SMX-25 will be equipped to deploy combat swimmers and their delivery vehicles, commandos, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

According to aviationweek: Non-nuclear submarines cannot typically operate fast for long run: current generation batteries do not store enough energy and their circular-section hulls are not considered to be very efficient when operating on the surface of the water and they are typically limited to about 10 knots. The SMX-25 is on the other hand is designed for high speed on the surface, with a wave-piercing hull and a top speed of 38 knots and a range of about 8000 nm. According to DCNS it will be hard to detect via sonar and radar and hard to hit by missiles (as it has a low signature and can also dive to evade the missile) and also hard to destroy using a torpedo because of its fast speed.

The SMX-25 will be equipped to deploy SEAL teams and their delivery vehicles, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It will also include some fairly heavy weaponry including 16 missiles, 4 heavy machine guns and torpedoes operated by a crew of 27 plus about 10 commandos.

TFOT covered many advanced underwater vehicles including: Exploration Submersibles, SubAviator Fast Sub-Plane, Hyper-Sub Powerboat, Triton 1000 Personal Sub and the sQuba -part car part sub.
You can find out more information on the SMX-25 on the SCNS website.

@Penguin sir, Do you know about noise levels of modern generation ssks? How stealthy is Scorpene compared to other SSKs?

Amur is likely not less silent than the Kilo. Upholders, when operating on battery power, are almost undetectable on passive sonar, and when snorkelling, their acoustic signature is comparable to their nuclear-powered contemporaries in normal operation. Being physically small, they are difficult to detect by magnetic anomaly or other non-acoustic means. Upholders were better than Oberon class. I expect Dolphin 2 and 212A to be equal or better than Upholder. Agosta in this graph is likely the French/Spanish Agosta 70. I expect Agosta 90B to be better than Agosta 70, more comparable to Upholder, but probably not better. Scorpene is likely equal or better than Agosta 90B, so more comparable to Dolphin 2 and 212A.

Mind you, this is just my rough idea.
