A massive protest in Kargil against Pakistan condemning atrocities against Shias took place on Monday. The protestors belonged to Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust.

The protests erupted after the sect's cleric Sheikh Mohsin Ali Najafi from Gilgit-Baltistan was arrested by the neighbouring nation, says Times Now.

As per the report, thousands of Kargil residents began the protest against Pakistan after the country placed Najafi’s name in the Fourth Schedule (Anti-Terror Act) and revoked his citizenship. The protestors held placards carrying slogans and also condemned the atrocities against Shia by the country. They marched from Jamia Masjid, Kargil, to Lal Chowk.

They marched from Jamia Masjid, Kargil, to Lal Chowk.

MLA, Kargil, Asgar Karbalai said to Tribune India, that the Pakistan government was corrupt and “are now trying to protect terrorists and pleasing Saudi dynasty”. “We are against oppression and always stand with the oppressed people, whether in Gilgit Baltistan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Quetta Baluchistan or in Kashmir. Shaikh Mohsin Ali Najafi is an academic person and not a political person and the Pakistan Government is trying to limit his social activities,” he added.

The Chairman of the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust Sheikh Hussain Lufti said the people should always rise against the atrocities.

. . . . .
My sympathy with Shias. They are having tough time in the Valley

There are very few shias in the valley. Shias helped a lot to Indian Army during the Kargil War. If not for Shias acting as an informant's, India would have not have known the incursion into Kargil by Pakistan at the correct time.

.
Any action taken on parties who held a meeting in Islamabad few days ago where anti Shia slogans were raised?

No anti shia slogans were raised and Pak Difa Council itself has clerics from all sects including Shias.

Apart from that your secterian buddies are getting whacked left and right and all hate speakers are getting booked..

You should worry about your hindutva terrorists rather than Pak.

That's not preaching hatred.
Nobody spread hate.

ISLAMABAD: The counter-terrorism authorities have arrested over 15,000 hate preachers as part of a crucial exercise to swiftly execute the National Action Plan (NAP), a move federal government claimed to ‘de-radicalise the society’ for maintaining constant peace in the country.

Law enforcement agencies rounded up 15,259 clerics, religious teachers and prayer leaders under charges of ‘delivering hate speeches and possessing hate/anti state material’ following the newly formed laws to cope with terrorism and extremism under the NAP, revealed official progress report obtained by Geo News (ASKKS Programme)/The News, showing progress made by the federal government under the NAP in past eighteen months.

Tens of thousands of arrests were made on the basis of intelligence reports gathered by counterterrorism department and special branch of provinces as well as by the operators of intelligence bureau in thousands of combing operations being conducted across the country. “We want to get rid of extremism—de-redicalise the society. It’s only way to wage a successful war against terrorism and extremism,” said Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Yousaf.

“Come what may, actions against all extremists under NAP will go on,” he declared while talking to Geo News/The News when specifically asked: “Is this the only solution to de-radicalise the society' in a detailed sitting.”

More than 14,869 cases were filed against hate preachers, clerics, religious teachers, prayer leaders and dozens of religious scholars, official data exclusively obtained by Geo News/The News further revealed.

The counterterrorism forces arrested 11, 169 clerics/hate mongers who were later sent to courts for facing terrorism charges in 10, 648 cases in Punjab—a province claimed to find its security forces active in swiftly executing the NAP.

The police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) forces arrested 2, 845 clerics in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in last one and half year. Later over 2,693 cases were filed against these accused religious leaders who are now facing multiple charges under newly formed to deal with extremists and hate mongers in the province which witnessed 70 percent drop-down in terror attacks during this period.

Sindh police got managed to file 1,133 cases against 775 hate mongers who were spreading extremism in society through their speeches and lectures in mosques and madrassahs during this period. Official documents suggested that Balochistan province showed lethargic response when it comes to handling extremists involved indelivering hate speeches and possessing hate materials in the province. Around 108 cases were registered while 100 clerics were arrested by the law enforcement agencies in the province.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police arrested 32 clerics that belonged to different schools of thought since the NAP started. Later 119 cases were registered against these hate mongers in the federal capital.

The government of Gilgit-Baltistan filed 33 cases against 40 clerics/religious teachers who were violating loud speaker laws in the area. Majority of arrested clerics are said to be having affiliation with Sunni and Shia community over there. The law enforcement agencies also filed 126 cases against 200 religious school teachers and prayer leaders in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Official data further revealed that around 6,000 cases were registered against shopkeepers who were selling either hate materials or anti state materials. Over 3,200 cases were registered against owners of shopkeepers in K-P, 1085 in Punjab, 13 in G-B and 66 cases were filed against those who hold hater materials in AJK. Over 1,200 books and hundreds of other instruments linkage to extremism were confiscated by the police in Balochistan.

Under new NAP laws, the ICT and provinces have got geo-tagged over 62,600 mosques across the country. Islamabad and Punjab have completed mapping exercise of all madrassahs while mapping exercise of Sindh (80%), K-P (75%), Balochistan (60%) and Fata (85%) is going on and will be completed by end of this year. The law enforcing agencies have also completed geo-tagging of 2, 926 minority worship places across the country.

“Arrests of religious teachers/clerics continued. We have taken up this issue with high ups—but thousands of arrests go on as usual,” said Abdul Qadoos Mohammadi, the spokesperson for Wafaq-ul-Madaris Pakistan. Many other issues like registration of seminaries and opening of accounts remain another sticking point, he added.

Former NACTA Chief Hamid Ali Khan says, "It's a long and complicated battle. Arresting hundreds or thousands of clerics is not the solution. Of several by products of terrorism that has affected most the Pakistan society is extremism that is presently the existential threat to the state. Extremism needs holistic and comprehensive approach. The entire society and state have to fight together. It means creating tolerant society, interfaith harmony, compassion and humanity .It involves defeating mindset, ideologies network and financing of extremist groups and winning hearts and minds of people. Its way forward is to bring Madrissas reforms, modernise curriculum, education reforms and constructive role of media and civil society in particular by playing key role for constant peace."

Pakistanis must stop this oppression of Shias

ISLAMABAD: Some 9,400 firebrand speakers and clerics have been arrested on charges of fanning the flames of sectarian hate as the government stepped up efforts to curb strife as part of the National Action Plan (NAP).

“All of them were found involved in fuelling sectarianism in the name of religion,” an official tasked with monitoring the progress of the action plan told The Express Tribune.

Pakistani imam jailed for five years for anti-Shia sermons

Law enforcement agencies have registered 9,689 cases against ‘hate preachers’ under the law that has banned hate speeches and misuse of loudspeakers.

Police have also arrested 9,354 religious leaders and clerics under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Pakistan Penal Code.

Moreover, the home departments of all the provinces have barred 1,345 firebrand speakers belonging to different schools of thought from making speeches on Muharram 8, 9 and 10.

There is zero tolerance for hate speech in Pakistan, even if you are a cleric!

Around 6,504 cases against religious leaders have been registered in Punjab, 1,647 in Sindh, 1,286 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and 47 in Balochistan, reveals NAP’s progress report.

Meanwhile, 94 cases have been registered in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 91 in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and 20 in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B).

Law enforcers have arrested 6,943 clerics in Punjab, 1,383 in K-P, 775 in Sindh, 38 in Balochistan, 122 in ICT, 53 in AJK and 40 in G-B.

Seventy-one shops or other sites involved in spreading hate literature in Punjab, Balochistan, AJK and G-B were also sealed.

Prayer leader sentenced to 10 years in prison

Law enforcement personnel have also confiscated 2,129 materials from mosques and seminaries that were being used to incite hardliners to attack minority groups.

“We are serious about getting rid of all elements breeding extremism in our society,” said Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousuf.

Reacting to the ongoing crackdown, clerics have said the LEAs should not measure all religious teachers or scholars with the same yardstick.

ASWJ leader sentenced to six months in prison

Thousands of clerics have been imprisoned or are facing trial, said Abdul Quddus, spokesman for the Wifaqul Madaris (education board for seminaries). “All religious teachers are not terrorists.”

He urged the government to “consider us true representatives of this poor society”. He also claimed: “We, for sure, are the true guardians of this state.”

Yousaf said representatives of all schools of thought were cooperating with the government. “We believe we can win the war against extremism only if the clerics stand by us. And yes, religious leaders of all sects are supporting us.”

Senior Jamaat-e-Islami leader Prof Muhammad Ibrahim Khan also criticised the government for the crackdown. “Ulema’s arrest is not the solution to curbing extremism. Such arrests under NAP are meaningless because the action plan itself has several loopholes.” The detained religious teachers should be provided the right to defend themselves, he added.

It was not a Pak Difa Council rally, this is what was reported. My secterian buddy Ludhainvi filed papers from PP 78 by-poll elections.

"Sunni Ittehad Council Central Chairman Ahmed Ludhianvi, while addressing the convention, said that they had invited Difa-e-Pakistan Council, but no one came to attend the rally. ‘Neither Maulana Sami-ul-Haque nor Hafiz Saeed joined us today,’ he said.

Reportedly, sectarian slogans against followers of the Shia sect were also raised during the rally but no action was taken either – raising a serious question over the National Action Plan (NAP)."

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Ludhianvi, chief of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), says, “Sectarian violence is a conspiracy against the country; we should avoid it.”

He stated this while talking to this correspondent. On Yemen, Ludhianvi had advised the government, in a press conference, to choose a way which was in the interest of the country. “Iran is a neighbour and Saudi Arabia is a friend; we cannot ignore any of them so we should adopt a policy which should not become a cause of violence in the country,” Ludhianvi said clearly.

Ludhianvi’s father Sadrud Din Ludhianvi migrated from the Indian Punjab’s Ludhiana’s village Rai Kot district to Faisalabad’s town Kamalia, the Pakistani side of the Punjab, in 1947 following the Partition. During the migration, one of the elder Ludhianvi’s two sons died due to ailment on their way to Pakistan. The family buried him somewhere in the Punjab on the Indian side and kept moving until they reached Faisalabad’s town Kamalia.

Sixty-eight years after this tragic incident, Ahmed Ludhianvi still remembers his elder brother and wants to visit India to locate his grave. “I want to visit India to find out the grave of my brother,” said an emotional Ludhianvi. Ludhianvi wants peace with India and says both India and Pakistan have already lost many people in the wars.

Making an interesting observation about the Sharifs, he said: “The elder Sharif (Nawaz Sharif) is a jolly man with a smiling face, while the younger Sharif (Shahbaz Sharif) is a man without expressions.”

He recalled that in the 2008 election, Shahbaz wanted to get elected unopposed from Bhakkar where he had given ticket to one of his party activists.“I was contacted by Shahbaz Sharif through Shaukat Javed, the then Inspector General of Punjab Police, and we met,” recalled Ludhianvi.

Ludhianvi said that he withdrew his candidate on the request of Shahbaz and went to the Bhakkar court to get back the papers of his candidate.“I had announced the success of Shahbaz Sharif for not only wining the seat of the provincial assembly, but also becoming the chief minister of the Punjab.”

The political interests of Sharifs changed and during the 2013 election campaign, Shahbaz Sharif was campaigning against the same Ahmed Ludhianvi who once helped him become the unopposed chief minister of the Punjab.

“I was shocked that how Shahbaz Sharif had forgotten my gesture of help,” said Ludhianvi and quoted a saying of Hazrat Ali (RA): “Beware of mischief from the one you have favoured.”Ludhianvi said he won the election of 2013 but his opponent was declared the winner. “I took the matter to the election tribunal which decided in my favor. However, my opponent took the matter to the Supreme Court and the matter is pending there. It’s beyond me why his matter is not being fixed.”

Asked why he always favoured the Sharifs, he abruptly said he had learnt a lesson and next time he would think twice before favouring them, as they did not honour commitments. Ludhianvi holds Interior Minister Ch Nisar Ali Khan in high esteem saying that he is the only man in the government who is a man of commitment. He complained that the Punjab ruling elite doesn’t respect him but Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad does.

“Ibad first requested me to meet him following the peaceful funeral prayers of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Nadeem who was killed in Karachi. Since he ensured peace in the city before, during and after the funeral prayers, I thanked him and have always been full of respect,” said Ludhianvi. Ludhianvi openly denounced the contact of the defunct Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) with his organisation.

Asked about any threats to his life, Ludhianvi didn’t share much but said: “The Home Department and the police often inform me (verbally) about the threats but since I am the head of a party, I keep on moving and working.”When told that his name was in the Schedule 4 of the Anti Terrorism Act, he expressed his ignorance in this regard.
