But Nigeria has a lot of oil. And Saudi Arabia. No invasions, no coups in either.
We are not nigeria nor a country with a king.Honorable VCheng.
Sir, kindly permit me to remind you that oil has been the cause of serious trouble in Saudi Arabia as well as in Nigeria.
Saudi Arabia:
King Faisal of Saudi Arabia imposed an oil embargo during the 1973 Arab Israeli war was assassinated by his nephew Prince Faisal bin Musaid on March 25, 1975. Arab media offered 3 possible motives for King Faisal’ murder.
1. Prince was annoyed with the king because his allowance was too low and that king had forbidden him to travel abroad because of his drug taking & alcoholism.
2. Prince was engaged to one of the daughters of King Saud who was ousted in a palace coup by Faisal in 1962 and this was at her behest.
3. Prince had been educated in the USA and had many American contracts. The CIA in collusion with Mosaad exploited his animosity towards the king to punish King Faisal for the Oil embargo of 1973.
Nigeria:
Oil was first discovered in the Niger Delta in Eastern Nigeria in 1956. Oil production expanded rapidly during the 1960s (Nigeria gained independence in October 1960) and by 1966 Nigeria was producing more than 400K bpd mostly from the deposits in Eastern Nigeria.
In the meantime, Nigeria had also suffered military coups. An ex- Military Governor of Eastern Nigeria, Mr. Odumegwu Ojukwu declared the Eastern Oil rich region of Nigeria as the independent “Republic of Biafra”. It took the federal gov’t forces 3 years (May 1967 to January 1970). It is estimated that about 50,000 servicemen & up to 2-million civilians died as a result.
Humans by nature are greedy & selfish. Whenever a lot of riches /even perceived riches is found in one region, it is a recipe for trouble. Till the 19th-century European colonial powers exploited the resources of the weaker regions of the rest of the world. Existing religious, ethnic and provincial differences are exploited and countries often break up because one region does not want to share their wealth with the rest of the population.
A most recent example is Sudan. South Sudan is Christian and the north is Muslim. A low key civil war had been going on from time to time since independence. Oil was first discovered in Sudan in the South in 1978. In 1983 Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) was established in 1983 and the civil war broke out again. Peace was established in 2005 granting autonomy to South Sudan for 6 years and the then hold a referendum in the South. February 2011 referendum showed 98% south Sudanese opting for independence.
Sudan has 5-billion barrels of oil reserves and produces about 490K barrels a day. It is estimated that nearly 2-million people lost their lives during the long civil war.
Kekra-1 well is about 290 Km offshore, and maybe nothing will happen. However, in case substantial deposits ( 5-billion barrel or more) are discovered onshore in Sind; strengthening of support for the Sindhu Desh movement cannot be ruled out.

Yemen war was not for oil but for influence.Wait....
Yemen war for oil.....
Venezuela attempted coup for oil.
IK should wait for things get little stable then go into deep drilling. Even if they find the oil and gas reserves, it will take years to build the proper infrastructure which will require money before we see some $$$.
Yeh Aladdin ka chirag Nahi ha.
if we find out 5 bb of oil and if Pakistan demand is 1 mb/day of oil that will be enough for us for 15+ years , a huge relief for us ,,,,,, Keep in mind few 100 KM away india have her biggest oil facility some where around 2+ BB ...We are not nigeria nor a country with a king.
Oil imports if decreased will solve most of our problems. We have huge lot of scientists and engineers. We will be unlike them, if oil and gas reserves are found.
even if oil import bill is reduced by 75%, even then it will benifit us. We need something like this until gawader is fully active along with all special economic zones under CPEC.if we find out 5 bb of oil and if Pakistan demand is 1 mb/day of oil that will be enough for us for 15+ years , a huge relief for us ,,,,,, Keep in mind few 100 KM away india have her biggest oil facility some where around 2+ BB ...
Fully agree ,,,,, We also have to work in hallal food sector,,,,,, Govt have to make sure they facilitate private sector and youth for animal farming and Govt need to make sure the install proper and advance meat management system ,so we can at least export 20 billion $$ worth of meat and can make extra few billion $$ from other related sectors ….. for example we can use cow waist for electricity and bio-oil ……even if oil import bill is reduced by 75%, even then it will benifit us. We need something like this until gawader is fully active along with all special economic zones under CPEC.
