Map: The best places in the world to be a rich foreigner

Everyone knows this list is wrong. North Korea should have been rank 1.

The reason why relatively poor countries shine in this list, is because for an expat, his/her disposable income is increased instantly as soon as he/she relocates to such countries.
Higher level unemployment will ensure low labour cost which lowers the cost of living. If the country has decent law and order situation, its not a stretch that an expat will prefer such country.
HDI is not everything in expats point of view. How easy is to assimilate with the local culture there? How multicultural and welcoming those countries are for expat? How is the weather like?
Will I have a better or worse day to day life there?

You don't have to tell me this. This list makes little sense despite that in my eyes. I already gave plenty of reasons for that. The economy is only 1 parameter of this report and obviously wealthy people will have a big purchase power in Scandinavia regardless of the taxes as well. The cost of living must be compared to your salary. A wealthy man in Denmark for instance will earn more than a wealthy Frenchman. Significantly more in fact. Despite the taxes being slightly bigger in Denmark.

If economy was this important the GCC would be the best choice as there is nothing called taxes. As everything is relatively cheap. Food, fuel, labour costs etc. If you are rich you have some of the highest salaries too. Just look how much an chemical engineer earns in the GCC (well-posiitoned) compared to most other countries in the world.

Are you saying that multicultural societies like the Scandinavian countries (who are the favorite destinations of thousands of refugees) are not welcoming to foreigners? Do you even know about Sweden's refugee policy? They are the country that welcomes the most refugees per capita in the Western world.

Weather surely can't play a huge role in this report. Come on. Nah mate, this report has too many flaws for my liking and strange choices.

Anyway we don't have to agree. This is just 1 out of dozens of such lists. All often vastly different aside from the same suspects.

I'm sure the tax rate has a big influence. If you could earn a $200K salary in a country and pay little taxes then of course you are going to give it a big thumbs up.

Strange list IMO. Surprised by Bahrain (5) being placed so high on that list. Egypt number 34?

Spain as number 24? Must be a joke. Vietnam? Really? India as number 9? Really?

No Scandinavian country in the top 34? Really?

Anyway nice that the GCC is very well represented on that list nevertheless. Such lists are always controversial anyway.
High taxes in the Scandinivian

I expect a major factor is tax rates. Developed countries, particularly Scandinavia, have higher and very progressive tax rates, in general. Makes moving there with a lot of money less attractive.
