A riskshaw is seen overturned as pedestrians wade in a waterlogged road in Dhaka’s Rajarbag area on Monday – Sony Ramany

Torrential monsoon rain from Sunday midnight to Monday morning swamped many parts of the capital, disrupting people’s movement and triggering traffic chaos.

According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department, 63mm of rain was recorded in the capital from 6:00am to 9:00am. Besides, 19mm of rain was recorded in the last 24 hours till 6:00am Monday, said meteorologist Omar Faruk.

Many streets, lanes and by-lanes in the capital went under ankle to knee- deep water.

People, mainly office-goers and others who went out of home for various works, found themselves in trouble in the morning due to waterlogging and traffic jam.

Md Ashraf, operation manager of Alif Paribahan, said that Mirpur-10 to Gulchakkar, Sewrapara, Kazipara part of Begum Rokeya Sarani, Agargaon crossing, Bijoy Sarani crossing, Kalabagan, Asad Gate on Mirpur had been inundated.

Shantinagar, Mowchak crossing, Kakrail also witnessed the similar situation, said traffic inspector Md Asad, who was on-duty at Shantinagar.

He said that a number of vehicles remained stranded at different city streets due to water logging since morning.

According to a Met office media release, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind was likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, at many places over Rajshahi and Barishal divisions, and at a few places over Dhaka and Khulna divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country.

Due to active monsoon, all maritime ports of Bangladesh had been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No 3.

Rain or thunder showers are likely to continue over the next two days.

@Atlas, did not I request you to ask Hasina to solve this waterlogging in Dhaka instead of talking on many fancy projects? I hope you are working on it.

Anyway, this is the real Bangladesh where people have to accept bullying by the political rich as well as the nature. Nature is very cruel causing us to suffer a lot.

When we have a Messiah and Zugabotar like @bluesky , why do anyone need to think anything about Bangladesh .

Keep bashing Bangladesh , keep doing analysis and try to prove that how rational you are , keep making war plans against miynmer when sitting on your armchair or sofa in safe living room, all problem will be solved automatically.

Why do you think I am bashing BD? I posted a waterlogging news in the country that occurs every year. But, people living in the glass houses of development lose their ground and then bash me for telling the truth. Am I not being bashed regularly for telling the reality of a country for which the govt is not sincerely working.

Anyway, when the Hasina govt will fix the waterlogging? I am posting another photograph that shows a worse situation. I do not know why you guys talk of development when the govt failed to fix these issues that shame the country.

However, you are talking here as if I am responsible for creating many issues. No, only nature can create it, but had it been in knowledge-based countries/societies, they would have fixed it a hundred years before.

Not now , but other times you do frequently and you are good at this . Now stop ranting and buzz off .
I do not bash BD, I criticize its govt which is responsible to uplift the living standard of the country' people. The country's PM prefers to speak of many rosy futuristic pictures while doing a lousy job of not being able to rid us of the shame of even waterlogging and many such things.

If you have really an influence, please ask the govt to do away with this waterlogging issue and thus raise the standard of living in Dhaka.

Criticizing illegal Awmi League regime [ its chief, illegal PM Hasina, her family and awami looters] and their criminal acts, DO NOT mean someone criticizing Bangladesh as a country. Awami league fraudsters and looters and their beneficiaries (like yourself) try to hijack name of the country and use it as shield to hide Awami League crime.

Bangladeshis understand this Awami deception but for others (including some mods) sometime fall for your blatant lie.

Then you are there to make them understand that ,why do you not get evidences to show my true face ? I don't think people ( other than your kind ) will pay attention to your rant .

Funny that we have the worlds largest swimming pool, but can’t swim
Usually, during storms that create the world's largest swimming pools, people do not swim but ride tiny dingy boats for transportation.

But, the BAL cheerleaders here do no think the issue must be fixed. A few years ago, a minister from Faridpur who is a brother-in-law of Hasina was hoodwinking people by telling there would be no such thing as waterlogging NEXT YEAR. Now, many next years have passed but there is no action to solve the issue.

And, here, the BAL cheerleader @Atlas is hoodwinking BD mebers here and complaining I am bashing BD as if I am responsible for causing waterlogging. I believe they themselves bash the country as well as those who want its real development. উদোর পিন্ডি বুদোর ঘাড়ে।

I have reason to believe that there will be more waterloggings on the streets because of constructing Piers for the MetroRail lines. So, the govt must look after this matter very seriously.

You have no idea the downpour Dhaka is suffering now for the last few days. As I speak now, rain is constantly pouring for days and nights. With this kind of rain, even a much better city then Dhaka will face waterlogging. Waterlogging is a kind of problem, even much more developed countries then Bangladesh could not solve. I can remember, few years back, the entire Bangkok city was under water for two months! This was the fate of tourism capital of the world. Bangladesh is much poorer country then Thailand and Dhaka is nowhere near Bangkok when it comes to infrastructure development. India's ''richest'' cities(Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai) regularly suffer water logging during monsoon. So you should be realistic on how much you should expect from Bangladesh. I am not talking about surrendering to fate. We have to continuously strive to improve. But have to become reasonable with our expectations.

Please do not make excuses for Dhaka. There is zero drainage management in BD. Countries with common sense plan ahead of the monsoon season and prepare the drainage network to perform at its peak. @bluesky asks a very valid question. BAL finds money to build flyovers and bridges and yet cannot afford to fix the drainage system of the country's capital? Why? Not many avenues to loot from drainage tenders?

Why are you making excuses by talking about Bombay and other cities of India? Read the latest news below and see the picture, the waterogged area is no more than 100m2. Why do you compare TIL with TAL? Moreover, should we compare with India when Indian engineers are capable to solve such small issues. In the case of BD, whatever may be the issue people like you want a political solution.

So, ultimately the govt does not try to solve the issue and people keep on suffering year after year. People l,ike you believe in those projects that can be photographed to prove Dhaka is becoming another Paris when the reality is tens of kms of waterlogging. Do you guys really think it cannot be solved or alleviated?
