India signed an MoU with the Republic of Korea on Mutual Recognition of Certificates of Competency of Seafarers.This paves the way for the two governments to mutually recognize the certificates of maritime education and training, competency, endorsements and medical fitness of seafarers issued by each other. The agreement was signed by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and his Korean counterpart Kim Young-choon at a ceremony in Busan today.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Gadkari said that the signing of the agreement will benefit both countries. Korea is a large ship owning nation. As of now, Korean entities own more than 500 foreign going ships, and need seafarers to work on their fleet. India has around 1,54,349 seafarers. The agreement will open up employment opportunities for Indian seafarers on Korean ships.

Shri Nitin Gadkari is on a four day visit to the Republic of Korea since yesterday. On the second day of his official visit, Shri Gadkari held bilateral meeting with the South Korean Oceans Minister Kim Young-choon. He visited Busan Port and attended India - Korea Maritime Cooperation Forum (IKMCF). Shri Gadkari’s visit is aimed at strengthening the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in shipping, ports, inland waterways, highways, river interlinking and infrastructure sectors.

On the fourth day of his visit to the Republic of Korea, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkariaddressed the delegates of the Korea-India Infrastructure Cooperation Forum in Seoul today.Leading members from the infrastructure business of both countries participated and exchanged views on the potential for doing business for mutual benefit. Speaking on the occasion Shri Gadkarisaid that India has plans to construct 12 expressways with an investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore. This, he said, would presents huge opportunities for Korean businesses. Similarly developing the national waterways for commercial navigation in India, and the plans to develop shipbuilding, fisheries and the port sector will also create investment opportunities, he said. Shri Gadkari also conveyed the Indian Government’s commitment for facilitating all foreign businesses who wished to invest in India.

Shri Gadkari earlier met the leading members of the Korean Financial Sector to explore ways of greater RoK involvement in financing interlinking of rivers, highway construction, developing logistics parks and shipbuilding activity in India.. An important part of the cooperation would be to enhance training and discussion among experts from both sides. Indian highway engineers and shipbuilding engineers can be trained at specialised training institutions of Republic of Korea to expose them to the systems in place there. Korean companies expressed keenness to work on the Nagpur Mumbai expressway project.

Shri Gadkari also met the Korean Minister for Land and Infrastructure (MOLIT) Ms Kim Mee Hyun in Seoul today. The two Ministers discussed the prospects of cooperation in developing smart highways.Ms Hyun said thatRoK is committed to enhance cooperation based on the commitments made during the visit of PM Modi in 2015. A draft Memorandum of Cooperation in the Infra sector is likely to be finalised soon. This will provide a sound institutional framework for enhancing bilateral engagement.

In another meeting with theRoK Minister for Environment Ms. KIM Eungyung, Shri Gadkari discussed bilateral cooperation in the area of river cleaning and rejuvenation.

MoU between Republic of India and Republic of Korea on the cooperation in the field of railways


The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been apprised of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the cooperation between Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), India and Republic of Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) to strengthen and promote scientific and technical cooperation in the field of railways. The MoU was signedon 10thJuly 2018.



Impact:

The MoU will provide a platform for Indian Railways to interact and share the latest developments and knowledge in the railway sector with its Korean counterpart. It will facilitate exchange of technical experts, reports and technical documents, training and seminars/ workshops focusing on specific technology areas and other interactions for knowledge sharing.

Details:

The MoU will provide a framework of cooperation for focused approach in following key areas:-

  1. Planning and execution of Joint research for the mutual interests;
  2. Co-operation in setting up of latest railway R&D facilities in India;
  3. Planning and execution of Technical seminar or forum;
  4. Short Term Training Programme for RDSO personnel by KRRI;
  5. Exchange Programme of Personnel between KRRI & RDSO for limited period, for specific Projects;
  6. Consultancy for the development of railway industry of both the countries; and
  7. Any other form of cooperative activities agreed upon by the Parties.


Background:



Ministry of Railways have signed MoUs for technical cooperation in the Rail sector with various foreign Governments and National Railways. The identified areas of cooperation include high speed corridors, speed raising of existing routes, development of world class stations, heavy haul operations and modernization of rail infrastructure, etc. The cooperation is achieved through exchange of information on developments in areas of railways technology & operations, knowledge sharing, technical visits, training & seminars and workshops in areas of mutual interest.

MoU between India and South Korea for enhancing cooperation in Applied Science and Industrial Technology

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and South Korea on cooperation in Applied Science and Industrial Technology. The MoU was signed in New Delhi on 9th July 2018 during the visit of the President of South Korea to India.

The aim and objective of this MOU is to promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of applied science and industrial technologies for the purposes of promoting sustainable development and enhanced quality of life.

INS Rana at South Korea to Participate in IFR

INS Rana which is currently on Operational Deployment to the North West Pacific region in the pursuance of India’s Act East Policy, arrived Jeju, Repubic of Korea to participate in the International Fleet Review (IFR) being held at from 08 – 15 Oct 18. During the 7-day visit, INS Rana, commanded by Capt Atul Deswal will have a series of confidence-building engagements with Republic of Korea Navy and other foreign Navies participating in the IFR.

During the visit, the ship will be actively participating the engagements related to IFR. A Naval Contingent will be part of the opening ceremony. The ship will also be a part of the various other sport, cultural events and will host reception onboard as per the IFR schedule.

The historical cultural links between India and the Republic of Korea have laid the foundation of vibrant bilateral relations between the two countries. These include the growing economic engagements and military to military interactions.

The main objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding are:

  1. To expand bilateral cooperation in tourism sector

  4. To establish exchange programmes for cooperation in Human Resources Development
  5. To encourage Investment in the Tourism and Hospitality sectors
  6. To exchange visits of Tour Operators / Media / Opinion Makers for promotion of two-way tourism
  7. To exchange experience in the areas of promotion, marketing destination development and management
  8. To encourage participation in travel fairs/exhibitions in each other's country and
  9. Promoting safe, honorable and sustainable tourism.


Background:

Republic of India and Republic of Korea have enjoyed a strong diplomatic and long economic relationship. The two parties now desiring to strengthen and further develop the established relationship for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.

Republic of Korea is one of the leading tourist generating markets for Republic of India from East Asia. Signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Republic of Korea will be instrumental in increasing arrival from this source market.

Prime Minister meets First Lady of the Republic of Korea

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with H. E. Mrs. Kim Jung-sook, First Lady of the Republic of Korea today.

First Lady Kim is visiting India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. She will be the Chief Guest at the Deepotsav event being organized by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh and the ground-breaking ceremony of the new Memorial of Queen Suriratna (Heo Hwang-ok) in Ayodhya on 6 November 2018. Ayodhya and Korea have a deep historical connection through the legendary Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya, who traveled to Korea in 48 AC and married Korean King Suro.

In their meeting today, the Prime Minister and First Lady Kim discussed the deep civilizational and spiritual links between India and Korea, and exchanged views on promoting people-to-people exchanges.

First Lady Kim congratulated the Prime Minister on being awarded the Seoul Peace Prize. The Prime Minister said that this honour truly belongs to the people of India.

The Prime Minister also warmly recalled the successful visit of President Moon Jae-in to India in July 2018, which imparted fresh momentum to India-Republic of Korea Special Strategic Partnership.

India and the Republic of Korea sign MoU for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Government for the Republic of Korea for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism in New Delhi today. Shri. K J Alphons, Union Tourism Minister and Mr. Do Jong-hwan Korean, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Republic of Korea signed the MoU and officials from the Ministry and their counterparts from the Korean side were also present during the signing ceremony. The MoU was signed by two parties desiring to strengthen and further develop the established relationship for strengthening cooperation in the field of Tourism.

The signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Korea will be instrumental in increasing tourist arrivals from this source market.

MoU signed between Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea on sports cooperation here today. From Indian side the MoU was signed by the Minister of State(I/C) Youth Affairs and Sports Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore and the Korean side was represented by their Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism H.E DO JONGHWAN.

The objective of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to establish a framework to facilitate and promote cooperation between the two countries on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit. The cooperation under this MoU may include areas like (a) Exchange of coaches, athletes, experts;(b) Exchange of scientific and methodical materials (c) Joint training for athletes and officials;(d) Participation in sports event, seminars, symposia and conferences organized by either country etc. The two countries will encourage exchanges and cooperative actions between sports authorities, sports federations and other sports bodies in the different areas of cooperation, as jointly decided.

Expressing happiness over the signing of the MoU, Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore said that such initiative would broaden the cooperation between the two countries not only in the fieldof sports but also in other areas. He further stated that two countries must also collaborate in sports such as Archery and Taekwondo where Republic of Korea is one of the pioneer countries. The best practices in management of sports infrastructure, governance of sports followed by the Republic of Koreas need to be studied for improvement in our system, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism H.E. DO JONGHWAN said that his country always looks forward to working with India in Sports. Relationship with India is priority for their leadership and they would be happy to provide assistance to India in areas of common interest. The Korean side invited Hon’ble Minister to visit their country.

Col.Rajyavardhan Rathore presented an audio collection of Ram Charit Manas and Quotes of Mahatama Gandhi to the Korean Minister.
